Take the glass out and put reclaimed wood boards across the top ,paint distress of leave the wood,easy fix

This is just not a country style. You are better off getting an old coffee table or even trunk from a used furniture store and painting it. This will always have the lines of French provincial .

I have to echo what sbrustein said, not much will make this table look country. You would have to remove the ornamentation and square the cuts on the top. I always encourage people to go with reclaimed but based on what I see of your other furniture I would not consider unfinished barn wood. If you want to build it yourself, there is a lot of reclaimed and sustainable wood to choose from. Otherwise, you could look for something at a thrift store to rebuild/refinish.

-- There are many different categories of "country" around - everything from almost falling apart to just a hint of country detail. Your table would fit into the last category - and you are thinking about basically taking it from traditional into country by painting it. Judging by your photo, your pieces in the background are not hard-core country either. Your newly painted table will fit right in because none of them are rustic, rough, etc. Your table will look more like you found it at a French Flea Market!

Think about using a rich, old color - a color that is somewhere else in the space. You have aqua walls so keep that in mind when choosing paint for your table. White is probably not going to add a richness to this room, so use an old, grayed down color. Consider using more than one color! Why not? This table has a lot of potential so think about making it really unique by using a great color and etching the glass.

Do not worry about the glass panels getting chipped or cracked unless you have a toddler racing around - hammer in hand. They are inset and protected by the wood frame. You could etch them with an all-over pattern, a small image in a corner, a monogram, something that speaks to who you are and what your interests are, etc. It is easy and inexpensive to do.

I agree with Janelle. Annie Sloan Chalk Paint with a distressed finish can turn any style into country. I would also try to staple a sheet of chicken wire underneath the glass, which would make it even rustic. Be aware, though, once you use the chalk paint, you'll be addicted and want to do more!
