throw pillows

What do you think of my throw pillows? I tried to add color to my family room using different designs and colors.

Love the pillows! Can a few be placed on other furniture in the room? Maybe just three on the couch for a more casual feel? They are all pretty though. Not sure which I could choose to take away.

Haha I was thinking the same thing, however the sofa is SO deep that if you don't have a pillow behind your back it's almost uncomfortable because you lay back so far. Does that make sense? lol. The sofa actually came with 5 pillows in all beige that I used as the stuffers :)

I love them, but I would probably take a few off and maybe repeat a few for symmetry.

Keep all then. Maybe just arrange them so they look less arranged:) I love them all. They look great in your room. Love your coffee table too!

Thanks! The coffee table is from Restoration Hardware if curious!

You've done a great job adding pattern and colour. As mentioned above, rearrange so it appears less contrived -- perhaps 3 at each end and the other 2 -- throw/toss them on and let them live up to their name.

    That's a good idea!

I agree with Lara. Try this: remove all the pillows to begin again with a new 'blank' canvas. Decide what you want as your focal point in this space -- the draperies, the area rug, the framed art piece (which seems off-balance...might you consider adding a companion wall piece to its' left?). Look at your photo and try to see how each of these are distracted from your throw pillow colors and patterns (and vice-versa).

If you're feeling a little daring, might I suggest keeping within one rich color palette in your throw pillows? Dark for contrasting-- slate grey, deep eggplant tone, or maybe a luscious dark plum color? Fabrics such as velour, brocade, or even linen would add more visual texture too. I find it overwhelming when attempting to choose complimentary colors so I first grab color cards from my favorite paint store, bring them home and find near-perfect color matches to my existing decor and furniture pieces (it's crazy how many shades of 'beige' are available!). It's so much easier to then choose soft furnishings & accent pieces and I can always keep them handy for future ideas.

I think you already have a good eye and lovely taste as evidenced in your photo. Step back from the space and see it again from a fresh perspective. I'm certain you'll be happy with your choices. Have fun!

Wow thanks for the advice. I moved some of the pillows and grouped them 3 on one side with 3 on other. With the framed sconce, I actually have another identical one to the right of that one. One on each side of the slider. Here's the full room pic:

Do you have a pillow on each chair? That would make the couch 2 and 3, but I think I like that better than 3 and 3.

You really love symmetry! If it was my room I would use the black and blue pillows. Save the lighter colors for a summer look. Think about bringing some more black into the room perhaps a throw and possibly paint the fireplace surround black too.

I like your sofas too. Maybe move the painting above the sofa on left side wall to the opposite wall and add a large mirror, I'm thinking gilded. Change some of the pillow covers to prints with a darker color in the print for contrast, put a couple on your chairs and like someone else said rotate the covers out when you want to change the look a little. Love your chairs and the entire room.
