Choosing wood floor color

Can I get suggestions for a wood floor color in my great room and kitchen? The house is in the Colorado Rockies and has pine ceilings and walls. We want to replace the beige carpet with wood flooring but don't know weather to choose a dark wood or try to blend a wood with the existing walls. Help please!

Typically I advise a shade or 2 darker when going with a room that has a lot of wood in it. The slight but not over powering contrast will provide interest and dimension while matching it will keep it flat and envelope-ish. With pine ceilings and walls I would try a floor like hickory for its long grain and consistent stain. Its also nearly as hard as Oak, without the oppressive pattering. Good Luck!
