Need flooring suggestions and paint color ideas

Looking to give this room a new paint job and new flooring (hardwood). I have always liked the color of the walls, and the color of the sectional, but not together, they are too similar. When we bought the sectional it looked lighter in the store. I was thinking maybe a gray color to accent the crown molding, but unsure how that will look with the tan sectional. Also would you go light hardwood or darker, also not sure if you can see it in the second picture, but kitchen floor( which the living room is next too) has a lighter floor (not hardwood). Thanks!

You could try to paint the walls in exotic colors like red, purple gray or medium blue

We have had some great success with the PurParket line of engineered wide plank flooring. There are so many colour options that you can look at on their website www.purparket.com

Could you share some info? Can the sectional go on another wall, maybe where the shelving is with the chaise running under the windows? It is too big for its present location.

Before you paint, choose your flooring. That will make a huge impact on any other decision.

I don’t mind the light/light combo, but once you put in the floors, colorful pillows and area rug could change everything and you will wind up liking the wall/sofa color better.

Family photos, IMO, belong in a bedroom.

Thanks for all the ideas everyone! We cant really move the sectional to another wall, I never thought it felt too big where it is currently located. I do want to add some new artwork as i feel the walls need something different, but I enjoy seeing family photos throughout a house not just the bedroom, so i cant part with all of them!

I think the lighter wide plank floors are a great idea. I would go with a grey paint. Is it possible to put a different cover on the chair so it contrasts with the sofa more? Maybe something with some green in it to complement the green walls in the kitchen. Or, what about bringing the green wall color from the kitchen into the living room? It would look nice with hardwood and the white trim. It would make the two spaces more like 1 big area too. Just a thought. I would choose the floor first. You will be surprised by how much the room changes with just the addition of hardwood. It will be a fun room to decorate. I'll be over for coffee:)

I was actually thinking grey and covering the chair! I like the idea of something with green for the chair. Glad to get the suggestions from everyone to pick the flooring first, my husband wanted to paint first, I like the idea of getting the floor and then painting.

BM northern cliffs is a beige/gray that may look nice with your sectional. The reason the sectional is too large for that wall is because it extends into the doorway. Also, family pictures are great but they should be grouped together and all your pictures are hung to high. You shouldn't have to tilt your head up at them eye level is better. The box in front of the sectional is too small in proportion to the sectional. It serves no purpose because you cannot reach it from your seat to put your drink or book or whatever on it comfortably. Also you have all the seating facing one corner but you didn't show us what is in that corner. A picture would be helpful.

Your living room ideabook contains my all time favorite family picture wall. It also is rife with greige walls, so I gave you both. Have your best family photos printed on canvas, then hang everything about 8 inches above the couch.

OK, you need a cocktail ottoman with a serving tray.

Can you tell me the color/brand of that floor? I really like everything about this design!

Jen, the floor above is just an image I pulled from google. You need to get samples, bring them into the house, and look at them in your room and your light anyway. A little like choosing paint. You have to see them in place.

You will do fine choosing the floors. I really wanted to show you what to do with the photos and art. Don't skimp on the size, and go black-and-white or sepia for a more cohesive and dramatic effect. (Plus, I thought you needed a round ottoman/coffee table and a bit of chocolate with your blue.) ;-)

Jen, I love the suggestions from groveraxle. I like the green on the wall too.
