Upper cabinet if you need more storage, add mirror above the 4" backsplash to the bottom of the upper cabinets.

Adding a mirror above the lower cabinets would reflect light back into the room and make the space larger. If you do add a mirror, I would frame it with the same wood and color. If you know where the cabinet came from, you should be able to purchase trim in the same wood and stain.

Anne Dee, I like your idea but there is about 2 feet of wall space from the left side of my cabinet to the opening to the bathroom. would that look odd?

if you built it up[ref the armoire in this pic} you could place a decorative element as seen in the pic
in this instance we see a vase and branches but it could be whatever you want as long is there is balance

How about some stainless floating shelves? Ikea has good quality at a great price.

I like the cabinet idea however we have a huge kitchen with this same cabinet color. My husband and I don't think we want to do that at this point since we don't need the cabinet space. It would be nice to make the space feel cozy with some shelving and art?

Just a couple comments - whatever you choose to do, if it's possible, I would paint the vent above the same color of the wall. If you go with shelving and art, I would consider shelving in the same wood tone as the cabinets.
