Hi all,

Our new house is closing at the end of Feb, and we planning to do a bit of remodelling to give us a more open kitchen area and modern look.

We initially thought of opening up that "U shape" counter and have a bigger island instead (Have it going into the breakfast area), but due to the placement of the staircase and the area, that may make it look even more crowded. The other option was to open up that U shape, then make a big long L along the wall, and then have a smaller island in the middle. We are not entirely sold on this idea though.

Here are a few items on our list which we'll get done for sure:
- Changing the whole area into hardwood including kitchen
- Create more cabinet space
- Changing the appliances to S/S

Nice to have:
- A tall pantry
- In cabinet over/microwave

Attached with how the place currently look, and the floor plan for dimensions. As a first time home owner and design newbie, I am not sure what other options that I am missing out. Do you have any suggestions?
