It just means it was applied twice.

Thanks for the clarification, I appreciate it! Do you know the brand of stain they used? I am looking to do a rich black with some grain showing, not a painted look. I had my maple floor ebonized years ago and it came out great. This new house has new unfinished red oak and the min wax ebony stain as I used before looks light black, rather than the deeper, rich color I am looking for. Any suggestions?
