I presume you're keeping the rug?

I don't think paint is going to be the major factor here. To me, the scale of the headboard feels really off in the room. I would put a taller, upholstered headboard with an interesting shape (check out Ballard Designs for inspo for that) or you could do a headboard that runs the whole width of the wall (I believe Jeffrey Allan Marks portfolio might have a great inspo image for that with oversized nailhead detail) could be really chic. I would also get a mirror to place above that was a bit brighter - like an round aged brass one reminiscent of those BDDW captains' mirror. Something like that. Kelly Wearstler used a similar one at the Tides in South beach. Can you also rotate the rug? It feels like it should run from the top to the bottom of the bed, might help elongate it.

I love the rug and would use that as your jumping off point. Dress the bed in a fluffy duvet, keep the euro pillows but replace the skimpy pillows in behind with the proper size for the bed and go for a layered look. Go with white for the sheets, cases and duvet cover (white never fades or goes out of style and you need longevity for a room that won't be used everyday). Add a colourful throw or coverlet folded across the foot of the bed in case your guests need extra covers. I like your lamps and the mirror over the bed but find them too small. Either replace the lamps or the mirror (or both!) with larger scale pieces. If you keep the mirror above the bed, lower it so it ties in visually to the bed. Clear everything off the night tables except the lamps so your guest have somewhere to put their stuff. Add side panels to the window in a pattern that picks up the yellow in the rug. You could go with almost any pattern since the rug pattern is big and graphic. Can you raise the headboard up? Looks short. I like the room in cloud white actually. I would leave it as is until you have some of the other elements finished then decide if it needs changing. Would love to see the wall the headboard is in a dramatic colour. Finally, add a bench at the foot of the bed so your guests will have somewhere to put their overnight bag. Good luck!

I think the wall color is fine. I would get really fun yellow and grey bedding, grey ( slight pattern) in drapes to go with that really great rug. The nightstands are fine but I really like how wicker ones look. The mirror is a bit small but I do like the shape of it. Good luck !

Excellent ideas from everyone! Here's one more way you could go - get some colorful bedding from Urban Outfitters or Anthropologie, and pull multiple colors from there. When I look at some of their bold and beautiful bedding, it makes your yellow rug look neutral! You could have so much fun with painted furniture, ridiculous art, funky chairs and furniture.......and don't forget one Mongolian lambs wool pillow on that bed - every bedroom should have one!

Keep the rug, paint the left and right walls a similar color. Add some colorful drapes to soften the space. I would also not use the black pieces on the walls. Too small. A Large painting over the bed would be lovely...is that one to the left on the floor? White bedding that is lofty and comfy looking with pillows that coordinate with the drapes.

I love the idea of a new headboard…I agree with Paola that the scale is off. In fact, that seems to be what has prevented me from pulling the room together. I admit the room has become a dumping zone for a lot of pieces that I never really liked. So much inspiration here!! This room is a dream to me! Seriously lol I love the natural lighting! Its the kinda room that, that one center wall painted like a creamy charcoal and a good investment in a Fancy head board is really all it needs, everything will come together after those few adjustments also keep the tables i would paint them a sea shell off white, with some fancy new rustic style nobs. but like in this case the center of the room is always gonna be the head board...and love the in door out doors rug!.... hope this helps

Like other posters, I would suggest a sunflower theme to go with the golden yellow of the rug. However, you might need a contrasting bright white in trim, window shades, doors, and other features to contrast from the cloud white and from the golden yellow. It might be a bold move, but perhaps the same sunflower yellow on the ceiling would add punch to the room. Otherwise, I would recommend the bright white or a very pale blue for the ceiling. Vases and frames for mirrors and pictures in silvertone or goldtone metal or metallic-painted wood also will add contrast, brightness, and sparkle to the room. You have beautiful furniture and accessories already, and I agree with others that more color is what you need.
