Look at white quartz or quartzite. There are some slabs that can look like carrera marble

sarajustice80 - we recently used white arabesque quartzite that resembled Carrara in a kitchen.

Is this marble honed? Is it Bianca carrera? Also, can you post another picture?

reemh3 - Yes, it is honed Bianco Carrara. These slabs happened to come from a very clean lot and are even more beautiful in person. Will post another photo shortly.

Thank you so much True North! We are currently building our house and these are the slabs we picked out. The first one is polished, but will be honed like the other two slabs. Please please tell me how these fair in terms of maintenance, staining, etching? I'm so afraid of it staining, etc.

reemh3, you can read a lot of threads about marble on GardenWeb. Also, I looked at pictures I googled and I did some tests myself on samples.

Marble is quite porous and soft and thus will stain and etch fairly easily. However, if impregnated and then sealed annually the risk of this happening is diminished. BTW I noticed that one of the three slabs appears to be from a different lot and thus should not be used in the same room as the other two.

Many of our clients are now using quartzite as it has a similar look and feel to granite and is much more durable. Unfortunately it is more expensive.

We are in a bit of a dilemma. Our island is 127 inches long and all the carrara slabs are shorter. That first slab is the only one at 128 inches. If it is honed, it'll be very close to the other two. Not sure what to do now. My builder only works with this fabricator and this is all he has.

Bought a slab of carrara, Woot!

Hi True North, we bought the slabs above. The shiny one above is 128 inches long and the only one that will fit my 10 and half foot island. So, it will be honed and will end up like the other two above, which will be on the perimeter.
