I actually liked the far left like you both but I also liked the far right so I painted the wall to decide between the two. Also attached is a pic of my kitchen on opposite wall. In the pic the grey floor board is the color of flooring.

But what furniture and rugs and draperies will be in this space. I hope you have all of those purchased BEFORE you even think about a paint color. So, if you have some of these, it would be good for us to see them before we should ever choose a color for no apparent reason than someone else likes a specific color. I would hope the blue on the walls will not be the only item in that hue in the room, so if you do not already have those items, you should not be choosing a wall color.

Ditto Barbara...What if your turquoise wall doesn't complement the other items?

To off set the dark expresson, go with the lightest color. To me it looks more aqua, but along the turquoise side. The whole idea yhou have is a good one and I think that you can tie your turquoise into the other areas. You accents of the color through out the rooms.

Most of my furniture is 'muted' neutral colors- greys, white, taupe, beige, and some espresso/ black silver and lots of shiny metal small peices

I also have a kettle and ceramic buddah that is turquoise LOL ;-)

You do not need a lot of turquoise or aqua. A little touch here and there will be all you need to make the room attractive. And the other colors go together, so it should be fun. Enjoy!

Yeah thats what I wanted a touch here and there of turquoise/aqua (can't tell the difference hehe) . My link didn't post before but this was an example of what I liked ():

The left one, the 1st color reading from left to right....the dark brown cabinets and this color contrast will look great!!!!

All interior designers suggest choosing a fabric or some art work that you will have in the room & then stand back & select the most prominent colour from there then the room will look pulled together.

Thanks. nana, i'm trying to follow what you're saying- are you saying to first choose an artwork that I have then pick colors from it? I don't have any turquoise peices ;-) I do have a turquoise little ceramic buddah though haha

I like the turquoise but you don't have an accent wall, IMO. All are pierced with windows or doors or cabinetry, so I don't advise painting an accent color. Instead, use teal/turquoise/aqua tiles as a backsplash all across the cabinet wall in the kitchen. Then pull it into the living room in accessories, a rug, etc. The curves in this tile and rug will break up all the linearity in your space.

if that's the case find a fabric first and have the store colour match the paint to the right turquoise.

Good idea Genevieve. I do think that you can have a slight varying effect in small pieces without it clashing. Recently I saw a picture with the turquoice and lime green. I think it works, provided that is a person's taste. :)

I like the second from the left but have learn the hard way that the lighter color is usually best.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I will be taking my time and pick out some more furniture pieces before I ultimately choose the wall color as a lot of you have suggested.

I'm a guy - so I'm more into muted, neutral colors (greys, taupe, beige) with some metals, distressed wood, etc. I don't really want to get too much turquoise in the room, just the wall and a couple small accent peices.

I think that my style is "transitional' so kinda contemporary, but some industrial and chic stuff?

Decoenth, the wall is about 20 feet across. To me if it's painted a different color then the neutrals/ whites of the rest of the walls, then it's an accent wall.

also going to change the molding around that little closet door and probably replace it with espresso wood so it ties into the kitchen on the other side of the room

Another idea would be to paint the door the same colour as the wall and change the door knob with a more industrial looking one .

I just prefer accent walls to be focals with no interruption of doors and windows. I do make an exception for a fireplace wall. Genevieve's suggestion to paint the door the same would probably work.

I think you have some great ideas intel! In fact, I can picture all of that in my mind. For sure go with those dark wood colors. If the wood becomes to light it will not have the same affect. And "brushed nichol" is very much in right now. That would look great with your distressed look.

With the other walls, I can picture a "warm" gray or beige to go along with the turquoise-aqua you picked. Have fun!

Hi! Did you ever choose a paint color? I would be interested to know what you picked and how it came out. I am doing a turquoise accent wall too in a room that is already painted a beige color.
