Help for a side splash

We just installed a new backsplash and countertops. The old one had a sidesplash that was not taken care of in the new design. Our contractor wants to extend the countertop to fill that space. I think the tile from the backsplash would give a better look. I have never seen the countertop extended to add a side splash. Please advice.

We re-did a bathroom counter and ended up with the same dilemma as you. What we did was repair the drywall and repaint. You'd never know that there used to be a sidesplash there.

Hi PureG... We took a good look at your photo.. Our suggestion would be to bring just the lower pencil and 2 tiles around to about the beginning of the radius on the granite. #2 would be to fix the wall and paint. Last would be to have matching granite side splash. Other than the sides,,,Your kitchen looks great.

How does he plan on extending the counter top? By moving it over to the wall, and causing a larger gap next to the stove, or replacing the counter top?

Sorry I meant to say use the same granite he used for the countertop to create the sidesplash just as Phillip said above.

I would repair and paint the wall. We had the same problem in our kitchen. I was going to tile sides, but then we had issues as to where to end it. After It's now finished, I think it would have been too much tile. Yours is a busy backsplash, it might be too much of a good thing.

Nice job on the kitchen. I had this same dilemma and if it were me, I would extend the bottom backsplash tile around the corner and end with the liner on top. Second choice would be to just repair drywall.

You have to use the same tile as your back splash. it would look funny otherwise.

Its not so unusual. Question is, will it look good in your kitchen on your wall with your tile and paint colors? An how far will it extend? DETAILS! ARGH!
