Need help with piano/ sitting room

I need help finishing this small space. Color of the wall, tables, lighting, furniture configuration, etc..I want the space to move away from feeling traditional and be more eclectic glam, but I'm not sure how to pull it off.

Beautiful home! I would love to see some small changes and how they can positively affect this room.

The mirror by the door needs to be lower....not too low, but there is too much wall between the table and the mirror. So maybe even taller items there......foyer items, like a mirror and a dish for keys and the mail instead of pictures.

Is it possible to turn that gorgeous piano so the player faces the room instead of having their back to everyone?

Bookshelves........lacking books. You have lots of pics and little books.....1/3 books, 1/3 decor and 1/3 blank space is a good goal. Find decor with color to pull in the couch and chair.

All of your pillows are the same........have fun with varying them and that will be a huge change, too.

You need a colorful piece of art over the couch. And maybe no pics on the mantle.

Little tables beside the chair and couch would be good for a glass or a book and a lamp, too. A floor lamp could also work beside the chair, but still have a small table there.

You have the basics, so remove everything but the red velvet seating and the piano.
Before you paint, hire a carpenter to bring your bookcases on up to the ceiling and across the French doors. Have an electrician install LED lighting in the shelves adding a connection out from the FP for a chandelier. Replace the foyer light with something like this crystal mini pendant. For the glam look, paint all the wood trim, stairs, railings and FP black. Add silk floor to ceiling drapes to match whatever color you put on the walls - maybe a silvery gray. You need lots of mirrored surfaces, including the backs of the shelves, coffee table, entry table. Float the red sofa in front of the French doors for a dramatic backdrop behind it. Move the chair and footstool opposite its present location by the stair railing. Add a plush flokati throw to the footstool, an animal print rug under the sofa and chair and a cowhide rug under the piano bench.

I thought pianos had to be on interior walls to protect their tuning from fluctuations in temperature, am I wrong?

No, janethumphreys, you're not wrong and I usually tell people that right up front. In this case, the only interior wall is directly across from the FP and would crowd out the seating, making a narrow passageway between the piano and FP if the piano were put there. With good humidity control, few drafts (well-sealed windows) and regular maintenance, this piano will be fine where it is, and I think that's the optimum place for it. Did you have another suggestion?

Definitely glam up the windows with rich fabric and lots of material!

I would move your current rug to in front of the double doors and add a larger rug.

Mirror over fireplace I would replace with large art. And add some glam to the ceiling (glossy paint even) then a chandy over the piano.

I would rearrange the piano so the pianist is facing the room (Much nicer for the pianist and for the listeners.) In addition, the light from the windows will shine on the music instead of the pianist's face during the daytime.

Yes, you might turn the piano so the lid opens into the room for sound quality and the pianist is facing the FP and can look to the left and see out the window as well. I don't think I'd want to sit in the corner while playing, though.
