We redid the kitchen with maple butcher block and they love it. I think it would be a great update to your kitchen.

If you don't mind deep scratches, water rings, and such on it, go for it. I'd love to have them. Believe a kitchen doesn't have to be kept pristine to be useful, although I do love me some fancy appliances.

Agreed. They are pretty but do require maintenance and are not the best choices for around sinks as wood and water don't mix. If you don't mind the dings and scratches, great. Just be prepared for staining and regular oiling of the wood to keep it sealed and conditioned.

Best advice i can give you is to buy chopping boards for cutting on and also some metal top board for sitting things on. Hot cups etc. You can put them away when not using. Make sure you get some good oil into the block. We bought butchers block and used Ikea oil. I think the oil is named something like Bendhalla? maybe wrong.
3 coats each side before installing. Then as you go, every 3-6 month use more oil again, just as a top up. Wipe up any spills immediately.
I LOVE the look of ours...so warm.

my thoughts are it looks dated. Granite or quartz and new backsplash would certainly improve your kitchen.

Butcher block looks great for a low cost option but the down side is maintenance. You can't really "butcher block" or cut on it or put hot plates on. You'll need to use a cutting board and hot plates.

Butcher block isn't cheap, at least not a quality product.

I think you'd be better off getting a great looking laminate in a color/design you love.

It would look great with your cabinets.
