Adding quartzite to this pool deck and surrounding walkways transformed this standard pool to a resort-style backyard.

We live in a large city in South Dakota and have a koi pond in our back yard. I love the sound of the water fall as it eliminates most of the traffic noise. It's also given me an opportunity to experiment with many new plants and provides a water source for many birds which I enjoy watching. Each July we participate in a pond tour which raises money for a local charity and we get to visit with over 300 people in a single weekend. I love to let the children feed the fish and watch their reactions as the fish nearly come out of the water to feed. The "children" range in age from 2 to 82 and each year I look forward to sharing our space with them.

My backyard is a private oasis in the middle of a beach resort town called Panama City Beach. In the second picture, the fog is rolling in off the Gulf of Mexico which is across the street.

We live in Eagle, Idaho. A small town outside of Boise that runs along the Boise River. Our backyard is East facing so I get the beautiful sunrise over our pond. It is so fun having all the water fowl living around us. The kids enjoy the paddle boat and beach. The Bass are plentiful so they love to fish here.

We just sold our small patio home in AZ with our courtyard size backyard. Photos show the end result of the remodel we did on it a few years ago. Outdoor counter provides great space for displaying hors d'oeuvres when entertaining.

We live in beautiful sunny central California where the temperature reaches 90-100 degrees during the daytime but where the breeze sets in in the evening. This is our backyard and where we love to retreat to for our evening dinner and night time relaxation.

My back yard is a cozy city retreat; my "back yard" is actually the entry to my Brooklyn apartment; I have a private entry, a private stairwell, and I even have a parking spot! I love to come here on Sunday morning to drink my coffee and read the Sunday paper.

I thought everyone would enjoy seeing some before images. I had just completed a small addition/bump out. I'm always emphasizing color, so I painted my home these three shades.

Our farm garden which has date palms, fields for vegetables, and some in green houses, a barbecue area and a carpeted deck ( since sunny most of year) with cushions to sit on under the stars at night. The flowers surround the sitting area and this area is at front of the house.

    charlee....celery...robin...I'm with ya!!

Things were going pretty good...then this Summer, my sweet little 5yo weeping willow died from a fungus. Now my back yard is going to be even barer!

1st pic is when she was newly planted.
2nd is when she was 2 or so years old
    3rd is my "lovely" patio!

So since I have to have my willow ripped out....backyard is back to dull!

My backyard is more like a park...like the ones in cities where the budget cuts have nearly stopped any work other than occasional mowing. It's been several years since we had any trees trimmed and my back yard is completely shaded by the absolutely monstrous sycamore tree and the locust tree which is almost as big. Even my hostas are wondering where the sun went!
