Need help for kitchen

The kitchen lighting dilemma: There is no light above the gas downdraft cooktop, just a plate rack. There are no lights above the breakfast bar. There is a mushroom flush mount light above the sink. The main lighting is a large 2-light fluorescent lightbox.

New granite countertops and backsplash are coming next week, along with a new SS gas downdraft cooktop and undermount SS sink.

We do like the white cabinets (but NOT the curved arch on the top cabinets). Still looking for a wall paint color.

A few questions.. (sorry!) #1 - Could you post more photos so we can see how big this room is and get a better idea of how much light you might need and exactly where you would need it? #2 - does your electrical panel have enough power to run more lights in this room? #3 - can you get into the wall behind the cooktop so you can run a light above it? #4 - You could probably replace the light above the sink with a pendant (?). #5 - same thing with the main lighting. :)

Thanks for your help, Kmkane :) We were able to get behind the cooktop because the backsplash has been torn out. I will find out about the electrical panel but the electrician said it would not be a big deal to add lights above the bar.

What type of pendant do you think would look good over the sink and should pendants over breakfast bar be the same type?

Granite is New Venetian Gold and will be installed next week. Backsplash will be 3x6 ivory travertine.

Can you also add under counter lighting throughout? I think it's half the battle in kitchen lighting. Have you found any ceiling or breakfast bar lights yet? As for upper doors, you can probably change those out inexpensively. Nice kitchen!

Forgot to answer you re: should lighting be the same. Probably should be similar, but no need to match exactly. Live a little!

I used little self-mounting LED pods under my cabinets for a quick fix; I didn't want to run new electric, and the idea of drilling holes into my cabinets broke my heart. They work great and last forever. Totally customizable, changeable, and reasonably priced. Just keep an eye on how thick they are verses your cabinet overhang.

Would love to add under cabinet lighting but it's not in the budget at this time. I would like to get rid of the light box and have pot lights but my husband says, "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

Kat Fairfield, those LED pods, seems like a great alternative. I'm going to get some.

Kmkane, I have been looking at pendants but I'm not positive what look to go with. I hope once the granite and tile are in place, I will have an better idea.
