Does it need something more?

I am of the "less is more" camp. But please advise if perhaps I should add more seating. Chairs or maybe benches. I just got these new pieces after having my previous set for 27 years! Very pleased but unsure whether to leave as is or add more pieces. Your comments will be appreciated.

This room looks as if it would be very hard to carry out a friendly conversation. Hence, I think that you need at least one chair perpendicular to the couch. Is it well enough lit to be able to read when sitting on the couch?

can we please see more photos of the room? It is very hard to give advice at this point. However, with only one place to sit, and such a small rug, it doesn't seem like much of a place to visit.

I would also like to see more photos of your room, until then it would be difficult to give you a solid answer.
Always remember you need to make a seating group that is inviting and that there is sufficient lighting.
    All the best!

Hello there! Yes, you definitely need more seating in order to carry on a conversation with someone! Two club chairs on the other side of the coffee table, and angled slightly toward the sofa and each other, will make this space more welcoming.

Have a look at the Paidge chair from West Elm. It would suit the style of the other furniture you have, yet offer a more relaxed vibe, as well as the ground the space. The chair posted below is upholstered in performance velvet, color is Dove Grey.

Thanks so much for your input . Adding opposite view of room to help. This room is not usually used much but I would like to use more for conversation so I agree would need to make a conversation group. Never read there so lighting is adequate. Main issue with adding seating is the entry and the opposite to the sofa is a main walk through. Would love to find some uncommon seating. Such as pair of small benches perhaps.

Karemore55 I like that chair. Also think placement you suggest is great. Will definitely play with that.

but what faces the sofa? Could you take a photo FROM the sofa?

Bertacruz, Would you be able to do the arm chairs on the ends of the coffee table, perpendicular to the sofa? You could do one chair exactly perpendicular, and the other just on a slight angle toward the sofa. But this way, they aren't blocking your passageway.

Mirrored wall faces sofa. Attaching photo. (Hopefully I will attach it right this time so I don't get 4 the same, heehee)

berta: I would like photos of all walls because I would prefer your furnishings be perpendicular to the mirrored wall, if possible. People are not comfortable looking at themselves while seated.

Kmkane thank you for pointing out rug too small . Especially when add chairs. I hadn't noticed. This is very helpful. Will have to look for bigger rug. Will update photos when have those suggestions ready to try out. I like these different points of view. Thanks. :)

I just looked again at your photos. So you will want to try the sofa floating in the room with its back to the sculpture and doorway with 2 chairs opposite. I don't see a problem with this but perhaps there are missing areas that do not allow this arrangement to work.

Even though you don't read in the room, you need additional lighting in the room to help even out the lighting and add ambiance. Maybe an up light in the corner next to the sofa, and a table lamp on a table next to the new chairs opposite the sofa. The single light fixture seems a bit glaring. Can you put a dimmer on it?

Karen Paul I thought of that originally with pair of chairs across. That would solve placement. What's held me back is that since then the sofas back would "line" the entry way, people tend to run hands or place things (hubby) on sofa back and I figure it will become stained.
Oh you mean chairs backs to entryway and sofa opposite! Hmmmm...... I must try it......

Depending on how much room you have, you could buffer the sofa with maybe a glass top sofa table to the back of the sofa. That should help.

I don't know what I mean, but if you can imagine it do whatever arrangement works best to have sofa and chairs opposite one another AND perpendicular to the mirrored wall.
Karen I will try that out. What color chairs should I be looking for? Walls are actually a light grayish blue (hard to tell in pics) . Brought in more blue with cushions. Maybe a stronger blue?

I agree with Karen on floating the sofa and placing a narrow sofa table to the back. This would also look great from your doorway. If this is going to be a place for conversation, placing a couple of club chairs would make the room inviting and your traffic path would work. It is very important to have accent lighting, will warm the room and make it more inviting.

IMHO there is still too much going on in the room.

I am attaching a picture of a modernised mirrored wall. It minimises the mirror and suggests a feature wall instead.
    Multi-Purpose Room · More Info

If you position the sofa against the mirror wall and introduce 2 armchairs as per suggested above, place them angled in along the window wall, you create a comfortable conversation nook.

The chandy is badly positioned. Consider getting in a builder and electrician to move it to the centre of the room. Introduce zone lighting with side tables and lamps.

You do have too many colours working on the walls and ceilings. Consider paring it down to just 2.

Consider an oversized rug that will sit under the sofa and armchairs. The additional furnishings will not clutter the space, just enhance it when well positioned.
