What backsplash would you suggest?

We're redoing our kitchen with this countertop with chrome trim, like in a 50's diner - and would love suggestions for a backsplash. It can be made from any material. The walls are BM "cloud white" , a creamy white. The cabinets are shaker style; black on the bottom with only 1 upper of off-white. The floors are fir. We have no dining room, so the kitchen is eat-in with a black table and funky vinyl covered chairs from the 50's. Here are some photos: Any and all suggestions are most welcome!! I love the direction you are going in with your kitchen. I don't have any suggestions yet, but am looking for something that might have the 'cool factor' you are looking for in your backsplash. :)

One of the things that might pop is a little bit of chrome! Hover over the photo to expand and click on the photo name for details
Here is a inspiration pic for 50's diner look featuring a lot of chrome in chairs, stools etc, but having it in your backsplash just might work (Stainless Steel)

Or you could do something in the red or yellow or black colors. All go well with your gray and white and black color scheme.

Might be a boring choice, but with that, I would do white subway with grey grout like the main color of the countertop. Cool design! Very funky!

HI -- Oh I think you have to have the textured stainless steel , that would be classic . Or a glossy square tile in a color from the counter material . I think the grey as in the background or a nice clean glossy white . Or if your more of a dare devil - how about lipstick red ! Turquoise was a big color in the late 50's and early 60's too.

I'd love to see you pick up on some of those colorful chairs to really accentuate and tie in the kitchen itself. I would look at some red glass or ceramic subway tiles and have a great time!

Home Depot carries these peel-and-stick brushed stainless steel subway tiles that might be interesting. They're not super shiny like chrome, but the texture shift could be really nice without detracting from the countertops. I've been eyeing them for my own home and would love to see how someone else uses them!

I love red with B&W. I have lots of colourful pottery and art for the walls. This is the reason I went with B&W and... white walls - not a usual colour choice for me. These are the only white walls in my house!! I was thinking of a red accent wall somewhere, possibly where there are no cabinets.

I have been looking at faux chrome backsplash (thermoplastic panels) I found at Home Depot made by http://fasadeideas.com/backsplash-modern-collection. I like the modern one on the first page of this link, but think it may be too busy with the pattern on the laminate. BTW - both my fridge and stove are stainless.

Wow, that is a great site devo6655. I can see the attraction to the modern one on the first page, but I think you are right, it is a little busy. You have plenty to choose from though!

Dark grey 1x2 mosaic glass tiles with white grout would look nice too, cheaper than the metallic ones for sure.
