I have a corollary question to Vivian's: I want to use 2 11-inch or 12-inch deep console tables, one each behind 2 sofas that I have facing each other in front of a fireplace in a room with 14-foot high soaring ceilings. For the lamps to be placed on these tables, one lamp per table, how large can they be? in particular, can the shade of each lamp exceed the depth of the console or will that look odd? If I can't make this work, I may go with one console that is deeper so that I can place 2 good-sized lamps on it. Comments?

I am working on a console table purchase also. I want to put two lamps on it as well. I hope you answer these questions

It is from Promemoria, custom sized for the project.

the lamps on the console table in back of the sofas can be up to 25" high. The shades cannot be deeper than the table.
