Hi! there is nothing "wrong", rather you just need to add something! I would first start with the mantel. I would add a mirror and a vase with flowers (both super affordable). Here are a few suggestions I think would work nicely:

I would also put a little more pattern in the sofa pillows.

The room would gain some energy from a colorful or bold rug. Trust your heart and gut - pick something you love without worrying if it will work... It will, all else in your living room is neutral and will look great!

add a pop of color with several bright sofa pillows. add a coordinating color for a throw to drape over one of the chairs.

For an instant fix to start with, move that large hung art piece onto the mantel....instant focal point.

Hi. I think your room is lovely. You could try changing a few things. I agree whole heartedly with moving the picture up above the fireplace. It's a focal point. I would add some pillows to the couch that pick up the brown color in the chairs and an accent color like the green in the vase on the table. Then a colorful throw on the the chair. A nice console table or small buffet would be nice where the picture was, with a beautiful lamp or plate and plant. I tried this with your picture.

As stated above, you just need color accents. You can look at rugs on Wayfair.com, or ATG Stores online. Just thumb through them until a color, or pattern appeals to you. Then, you can refine your choice and check other internet sites. The beauty of your room is that you can be free to choose any color(s) that appeal to you. A beautiful room reflects the homeowner's personality.

Use accent colors from the rug to add pillows, throws, and accessories. A table and lamp where the painting was, is an excellent idea!

Great advice above! The first thing that struck me were the dating pelmet which cuts the ceiling height, and the color of the curtains which to my eye are too dark and lifeless. Can you remove the pelmet and hang the curtain rail as close to the ceiling as possible? Would the budget allow for new curtains, preferably installed so that you have a wider expanse, at least another two feet over the walls on either side. This will frame the room and make it look wider and more luxurious. Definitely a nice mirror over the mantel piece to introduce movement and reflected light, like another window.

Agree with many of the advise above.... not much wrong with your living room, other than is a bit unbalanced to the right. Based on your pictures, the items on the right side (sofa and painting) are "heavier" than the other side.
I recommend to start by working on the fireplace (as previously suggested): Add a mirror or a large painting above mantel to "center the room". On the mantel, create a display of art but do not overcrowd. Could be two vases on one side or a pair of sculptures. Some simple.
once the center focus is done (fireplace), then try to balance the side where the two chairs are: you can add a small side table between the chairs and a floor lamp to give a bit of height.
Finally, I would add some color to the black chairs and sofa - Add some colorful pillows to brighten the room

You can try the art over the mantle. two darker sofa pillows to replace the lighter ones. I do not see any side tables by the sofa or one between the chairs. Each of those could have a table lamp. Place a light throw over the dark chair (one furthest from the fireplace.)

I liked the suggestion to add width to the curtain panels. The tables next to the sofa & between the chairs can each be different & can all be small, just make them reachable & large enough for a lamp and a glass if needed. Maybe place 3 tall candlesticks of varying sizes or an orchid plant to the side of but slightly into the space of the painting.

There is really nothing wrong with your living area, it is very appealing, just some hints for you to add some pizazz. I love the placement of the furniture and the size of your coffee table. If you move the painting you may want to place a piece of metallic wall art in it's place.
