What's the consensus on today's downdraft vents? (I'm almost afraid to ask.) Our new open kitchen will bring the outdoors in with a big bay window at the sink on the east side, a wall of windows reaching into the family room on the south, and a cook top on an island 4 feet in from the wall of windows. I'd love to preserve the openness and the view of the hilly pasture that will sell this home in 5-7 years, but my practical engineer husband has heard too many bad things about effectiveness and reliability. Must I capitulate?
