Definitely replace the floral piece with shelves, add a lamp to the side table, also decorate your coffee table. I would also rearrange your pillows so all the colored ones aren't in one spot.

Might be the angle of the pic, but it looks like your right drape is competing with the edge of the landscape. Have your tried moving the right drape panel all the way over against the left? Also, a bolder rod would make it look more substantial.

I agree to definitely move the rug under the front legs of the sectional. Luckily, the rug is a good size, so that's a very easy fix. I don't think I'd put regular art where the floral art is - maybe a clock, mirror, or metal wall art instead. You could most definitely use a lamp on that end table and make sure it's not too small - look for one that is 32" tall. Lampsplus.com has tons and tons of options and you can search by height and price. How about a neutral roman shade on that window instead of a curtain?

can you pull the sectional out so its not pushed into that corner? enough so you could comfortable walk behind the couch as well? then you could center the landscape on that wall, move your curtain out so its not so crowded and also raise the curtains.
right now without seeing the other side of the room, it looks extremely tight all jammed into that corner space.

Move the sofas in to the room and away from the wall by scooting everything toward the wicker basket end - which will put the sofa on the nice rug. Then your lovely landscape can be repositioned over the sofa on the same wall - hung so the bottom edge is 5 to 8 inches above the sofa. Place the wood end table in place of the wicker basket. Eliminate all but three pillows on the sofa. Adjust your curtain panels to be equally loose on the rod. The landscape and drapery seems to have a light orange or pumpkin color which would look great in some textured/patterned fabric pillows on the sofa.

Maybe a metal wall sculpture to compliment your art?;)

I would also take away all the throw pillows and start with some fresh colored ones')

Thanks for the great ideas! I see many of the constraints you all have mentioned but not thought of these solutions. I have a better curtain rod that I haven't installed yet; thanks for the idea to elevate it when I mount it. I don't plan to place lamps or decorations on the tables; they are usually covered with stuff my young kids are using and I just removed them for this picture. :) Also, we paid way too much for the landscape (from a real gallery) to replace for decorating purposes, but the flowery one is a cheapo from Cost Plus World Market, so that is a no brainer. Repositioning the couch to allow room for the landscape is a good idea. The plain-looking pillows (which are actually a textured sage, gold, and cream pattern) make the couch more comfy, so I don't want to remove, but you all sound unanimous on them being blah, so I think recovering them is the solution.

Bravo! Your beautiful art has such nice colors for you to repeat in pillows for the sofa. I suggest your consider larger pillows when you do replace current ones.

I also loath the bland wall color but we chose it to neutralize the terra cotta floor tiles. What do people think about that? I would love to put color on a wall but fear that the room would look too electric. (This image only includes a bit of tile since the area rug covers most of the photographed area but there is about 4' of tile around the two exposed sides of the rug.)

I addition to lowerimg your landscapes, place them closer together. That will buy you a few inches and they will be properly positioned. I like Margo's tree sculpture. It ties into the color and landscape scene. Keep your comfy pillows and change out the other ones for a pattern that doesn't out-compete your painting.

If you want to paint, a little bit of paint color will warm up the space. A warm (pale) sage green might do the trick.

Like the artwork, but not together. Also, I always hang my artwork 6" from the height of the couch. But, you have a great start. Have fun with it.

I agree move the rug around a bit, get longer drapes, and change the fan. I think you need more of a collage style on these walls the colors are great but neither piece has impact where it is... i know this isnt your style but you can see how punches of color in other areas and an interesting collection of art can bring in some life.

I like the idea of color pops, but not the idea of alot of STUFF on the walls. With the large number of pillows already on the sectional adding too much on the wall will make it appear cluttered

I'd be interested in seeing what the triptych looks like with a bit more space between the panels actually. But that's just me, and it may work differently for you.

Have you tried moving the sectional away from the wall or reorienting it? Also, both pictures are too high, so whatever you choose make sure to have the frame bottom six to eight inches above the sectional back.

I finally finished this room. Anybody who may be notified of this update may appreciate seeing how I implemented your suggestions!

I would now move your three sectioned painting to dead center of the wall and put a narrow floor lamp on the fireplace side. The pillow arrangement still is not soothing to the eye. They would look much better if the printed patterned pillows were next to solids or a contrasting print, and not in a line together like that. You really need a third print, perhaps striped pillows. Pillow covers are very inexpensive and they change a whole room for only a few dollars. I would also paint the wall behind that three sectioned painting the same color as the other wall. It would lighten up the heavy sectional feeling and make your room look bigger, which is something very needed here. You may also consider hanging a throw blanket on the longer sofa side right under the newly centered pictures. This would give the allusion that it is centered and would be more soothing to the eye.
