A rug with background color as the occasional chair and then swirls in different tones of the sofa color finished off with few more swirls in a darker shade of brown. Now we have to find it.

Define the seating arrangement with a rug. It need only underlay the furniture by a foot or so. This then provides defined area in the space, anchors your furniture(rather than the feeling of the pieces floating on a sea of wood) and softens the feel of the space without losing the appearance of the wood flooring.
