$500 what next? unfinished basement. creativity needed.

We had our basement waterproofed last year. Eventually we may finish the walls and add an egress window but that is way down the line. Now that it is dry we would like to use the space as a play space for our kids.
Already done(ish) painted the exterior walls blue. We did this to seal the walls after the water issues were taken care of.
So what next:
Do we keep the drywall up on the ceiling and add more or remove it and paint the rafters white?

After the ceiling issue is resolved. We will do the flooring. Creative ideas welcome. Looking at terra cotta or grass green floor paint. The space is roughly 400sf.

Love the wall color. Keep the dry wall ceiling, most owners of basements would kill to have your finished ceiling. Re: floor color, I would encourage you to do a somewhat neutral color that will go with any decor as the use of the room evolves, as basement rooms are prone to do.

-- Aren't you the lucky ones - going through trauma and ending up with this great space. One thing at a time is right. Great wall color to work with. Keep the floor neutral. These things play a supporting roll and should be kept in the background. It will be so much easier to develop the space if you don't have to work with finishes that are "out-there". Especially floors.

I know this post is old but wanted to add an update- A little more then $500(more like $2500)- we did most of the work ourself(minus electrical.) with the help of my dad. Still finishing the details(trim). Of course itsn't high end but it fits our life nicely and gives us a great bonus space for our tv and all the kids bazillion toys. Once we finish the back space all the toyboxes, white kids desk and white cubby will all go back there. Barn door will go up over the opening on the left. What color would you paint the fireplace? Also the paint on the cabinets did not turn out how I wanted so that is open for repaint as well? Fabric for the book bench will be made out of the fabric covering the letters.
