Thank you!

The bi fold doors were custom designed and detailed by our Studio and fabricated by a terrific millworker here in Chicago. The wood is walnut with frosted glass inserts. Thanks for liking the doors - dSPACE Studio www.dspacestudio.com

They're lovely. Do you know what brand of bi-fold hardware the millworker used? I'd want to get the smoothest feeling, least closet-like I could and I imagine you accomplished that. Thanks in advance.

We used Hafele pivot door hardware. The overall clear door opening is 38" wide. Each door leaf is 1-1/2 thick. Good luck with your project!

Ah--thanks for your quick, informative reply re the hardware. And 38" wide gives a nice wide opening. Much appreciated.

Sorry to revisit the bifold questions, but I am in a similar situation. Built a home, master bath toilet area opening is too small for a standard door, cannot do a pocket door because of plumbing in dividing wall, and thinking about some type of bifold. Will something like this work in a cased opening? Which way do the doors open? Do both panels go to one side? Any help would be appreciated. We love our builder, but sometimes not the most creative at solving problems like this.

We recommend having your contractor install two french doors on pivot hinges instead of bi-folds. That way when the doors are open they are flanking the opening (one on each side) and you won't have the need for a bi-fold track installed in the top of the door jamb. Thank you for the question and good luck with your project!

Sorry for the questions. Is the door frame/opening cased or built for a door. Right now we have a cased opening but it sounds like this type of solution should work regardless.

You should be able to install the pivot doors in a cased opening, but you may want to install a magnetic door catch or ball catch in the head of the door to keep the door in the closed position, especially if you don't have a door jamb. High quality pivot hardware is designed to achieve this function as well, and holds the door to the closed position. Good Luck with your project!

this is indeed beautiful -- is there a contractor you like to work with in Chicago? I'm replacing some cracked tile in the master bath. Sadly, not a redesign at the moment.

I love the doors. Can they be made into a set of swinging doors? If so how much. And do they also come in primed white?

Can the above application work with two sets of bifold doors next to each other? my closet is 5ft wide with two sets of bi folds.

    Susan,

We have a few contractors that we can recommend in Chicago. Please send us an e-mail at info@dspacestudio.com and we are happy to provide you with recommendations if you still need them.

    Anne,

To answer your question, these are custom doors, but you can get a set of french doors to be swinging doors and primed for paint instead of using a stain grade walnut. You would need to get pricing from the contractor or millworker that you are using on the project.

As for the closet that is 5 feet wide, you may be able install two french doors to replace your bifold doors. Each door leaf would be 2'-6, and as long as you have the clearance for the door swing, this would provide you with a nice open closet when both doors are open.

Thank you for all of the great questions and good luck with your projects! dSPACE Studio's portfolio of work can been seen at www.dspacestudio.com

Hi, just wondering if the French Doors are lockable or not? Seems like they are not though. Thanks.
