distance between island counters and fixed counters

I see others who are asking about dimensions between fixed counters and island counters. I have a big kitchen but it is somewhat narrow for an island counter. Yet I really want a moveable island counter for projects. What are some recommended distances between fixed and island counters? Who knows?
