Support beam, posts, meets wall...

We were tearing down a crappy little half wall in our kitchen... turns out it was a support structure, and the previous owner had attempted to do the same, but ended up removing some important support studs in their misadventures.

In OUR misadventures, we've replaced the missing support studs, built a stud on the corner that require support and now... how the heck do we make it pretty? We are on a budget; I've looked at white molding on the edges, contrasting with a colored support beam and trim on the bottom and top of the support post. But it just boils down to the logistics: how do those support studs fit into the scheme of hanging the dry wall? What about that support post?
