I do have a pot on the porch, to the left of the garage. When I post a new image you will be able to see it. You are right, I don't think there is enough room for a pot on the lower ground, to the left of the garage.

Here we go. One last night, one this morning. I wanted to make sure I did a good job with the lighting (which this mornings isn't the greatest). I would love to extend the shorter step out to the edge of the house so that we have a porch to sit on and watch the kids play but don't know how to do that on a budget. Thanks a ton for your input. Hi Carrie! We have to recommend that you replace your current shutters with pairs that are properly fitted for your windows. The shutters installed are too small, as they do not measure to be half the size of the window. Since, all of your windows are double windows, properly fitted shutters should be the size of a singular window.

Carrie, thanks for the new pics. If you want to extend out from the bottom step you are going to have to either build a deck, pour a cement patio or build up the area with a tremendous amount of dirt/sand to make a patio out of pavers. The yard has quite a slope to it as you know. Something can definitely be done there but I am not sure how much any of those projects would cost. I would suppose that the latter one I suggested would be the least expensive but a rock or block border of some sort would be needed for the edges to prevent erosion.

Hopefully a Houzzer with landscaping/building abilities will come to your rescue about that matter!

Eventually, when I have a budget, I would like to put a modern natural wood looking patio there. Maybe even reflect it in the shutters and boarders. I was also thinking about extending an overhang to cover that patio. Don't know how to do it with the existing roof though.

I am sure a pergola could be either attached to the existing roof line or installed fairly close. That would bring you some shade anyway. There are always so many projects that can be done when you own a home, it is many times overwhelming.
