Love the flowers!

I marked neutral because I like it photos but not sure I would ever do it in a living-dining-or family room. Bedroom-bathroom-or- kitchen maybe.

neutral on this one..I've seen nice rooms done in black and white, but at the same time, it seems a bit unfriendly...like a place that you like to look at, but you are afraid to sit down so that you don't ruin something. I know that bathrooms that are black and white are classic, but even those seem a bit cold.

Add more flowers :)

Black and white is too clinical. It needs a splash of color to bring it to life.

It appears to be a little bit overwhelming. Perhaps complimenting the black and white theme with a punch of color and spacing it out a bit may bring some more balance.

I would happily design my whole house in black &white (and for the most of it I actually did), BUT only with a third colour thrown in.

I think black and white as background is great for 'lazy decorators' like me, because it gives the flexibility of introducing an accent colour by using simple props; in this way getting an classic look that can then be accessorised according to anyone's taste. What's even better is that you can then easily change that third colour and have a whole new décor without going to great expanse to achieve it.

Example: my bathroom - it has orange as a third colour at the moment, but that can easily be changed to yellow, green, purple, etc.
Same with the media room (although that's still a work in progress): all I need is to change the posters and then brag about how I "revitalised" the room! And that's how I've done my garden and kitchen as well.

PS: I think Maria's room above follows the same principle.
PPS: I had no idea this was an actual trend; as I said, for me it was 'lazy decorating'.

I love more color but I think this look is great for a high flyer. Very classy looking just wouldn't be for me.

Black and white can be a cool modern look. But this is to busy for me. A more uncluttered look with sleek accents of color would more settling.

Love black but prefer it with softer beiges and greens or bold corals, yellows etc. Black and white denotes a bachelor pad to me!

Yes to black and white because it can look classy, sleek and modern. But the wallpaper in that room is dizzying thus making it too much of a good thing. A nice neutral wall with pops of color with pillows, art or flowers would have been more visually pleasing.

Too harsh for my taste.

I hate the "doctor's office" furniture but love the walls. Nicer black leather furniture would look much better.

Like anything, it depends on how it is done. I like more casual, transistional decorating and think using just black and white would be too stark for my taste.

I did gray and white with a touch of black and I find it very restful compared to the stark black and white, even though those are the colors I wear all the time.

Wall paper is too over the top

I'm neutral. It's a trend? My mom and dad did that back in the 70s.

There were some black and white rooms shown a couple weeks ago. I liked them all except for the geometric patterned wallpapered room. The one shown above makes me feel the same way...stressed. It does not have a calming effect on me. However, I have seen black and white rooms done with a retro or whimsical look...those I like.

I love it when it's done well. I'm too much of a color person to do it myself, but I do think many of them are classic -- especially a timeless white and black bathroom.

I think all of the photos on here were beautiful. I just think I wouldn't be able to do it...I'd be too tempted to add color all the time....but these were pretty, thank you..

Like most color schemes and trends, if done well and with some class, they can look really nice. I think with using black and white together, it's important to find balance between the two colors as each on their own can be overpowering. The example image above balances out the black by utilizing a white ceiling, breaking up the black expanses of walls with an interesting white patterned wall paper and variations in reflectivity in the different finishes (ie. the matte black on the wall vs. the shinier black leather on the chairs). The hardwood floors and pops of color in various accessories help to break up the monotony.

I think it also important to note the effectiveness of good lighting. That can make or break a room regardless of the decor. This room has good lighting so everything looks brighter.

Black and white is awful. The first picture is horrendous, I couldn't stand being in that room for two minutes max.

Black & white is boring and pretentious. I really dislike large amounts of black in any decor because it can be so depressing. To me it shows a lack of creativity, similar to my ex when I married him. He only owned black clothing with a few white shirts because that way he never had to try to figure out what to put together to wear because in his opinion it all matched because it was all black. One of the fastest ways to get me to leave a home that I was viewing when I was house hunting was for it to have large expanses of black counters or black appliances in the kitchen or a black granite bathroom. UGH! I don't want to feel like I've fallen into the black hole. The only people I know who decorate this way seem to be of the opinion that to be "classy" they have to imitate the colors of a tuxedo or penguin. What a lack of imagination.

needs a pop of color! even one!

I redecorated my living room with shades of black and white with Revere Pewter paint color, Benjamin Moore, this spring. I love it!!! It's so classy!

I do love black and crème...a little more than black and white...however; I am not a trendy person when it comes to expensive home décor! So, I say black and crème and then bringing in a little more color...

think the room needs some silver and sparkle. the brown kitchen cabinets in the background bother me, should be white or black?

Personally, I pray this black and white trend does not last as long as that disgusting grey trend. Every thing was so cold and dreary, and plus, many people have no idea how to pick elements that coordinate with their particular grey, since it can lean yellow, beige, blue, green etc. and it comes off looking especially cheap-looking. It may be why people like it, because they don’t think they need to think about their choices. Yuck!

I want to add that if one is doing a ‘30s or ‘40s house or doing the deco style, SOME black and white is expected, and can look gorgeous! But nobody ever actually lived in a fred and Ginger set, it was just a stylized movie theme, there were lots and lots of colors and shapes that made it work as a whole.
