Need an unbiased fresh eyes on my living room

I have uploaded 8 photos of my living room and i was wondering if Houzz could help me decide on the rug (either the brown or the zebra print) and make some suggestions on what needs to go & what's missing. Thanks!

This is a nice room. Love the look. LOVE the sofa. The animal print rug is bold. It should be larger. Otherwise, it throws the room off. Large scale art and some drapes would definitely finish this room. Regardless, I concur, it's a beautiful room!

I am not sure you need a rug under the coffee table. I would love to see the room without. Try the coffee table 18 inches from the couch and lower the mirror.....those small changes will make big differences.

Move the lamp in front of the window to the other side so it can be closer to the chair that is there. GREAT taste and it shows in this room.

Great taste in your room BTW.
I think your sunburst mirror is hung too high, and your lounges are pushed to close to the walls.

Cushions on the white lounge that tie your colours in.

The flower arrangement in the far corner seems a bit lost, it needs to be on a table or a bigger / taller arrangement, unless its the narrow neck that's throwing it off.

have you thought about adding another one of your geometric floor pouffs? and placing them opposite the white lounge on the other side of the coffee table, then moving your blue chair up next to the white one so you have 2 groups of 2 and the larger one with cushions that tie your colours in.

    hoping this makes sense..

also I vote for the zebra print, but it needs to be bigger or your chairs moved in

It's a lovely room, but it needs something to tie the colors together. Neither the zebra or the blue area rug do the room justice, but perhaps another area rug would work. I would move the blue chair over to the window where the square ottoman is to balance that side of the room and balance the space with the other side chair. Perhaps you could put the ottoman off to the side, so it's handy if needed.

The clock is hung too high above the couch, which makes it seem disconnected. It's actually too small for the wall, but it would work nicely on the opposite wall, which is not as big as the wall that the sofa is placed on. The sofa wall needs a good size piece of art to bring the colors in the room together. Either an area rug or art -- maybe both. It's such a pretty room, but it feels a bit disjointed and incomplete.

Here's a couple of ideas on art and area rugs to consider. With the exception of the bottom left area rug, the art and the circular patterned rug carry the colors of the room, to include the color of the padded ottoman/coffee table, which is all on its own.

Nice furniture selection by the way. Think the room lends itself to have the bay window as the focal point. The square coffee table is trying to draw attention which distracts focus due to its size. I would put the square table/ seat in front of the bay window with seat and stool either side. Either drapes or paint the walls housing the bay window a few shades lighter.

The hallway table is just that , a hallway table. It looks out of place and looking like a guy at a party not knowing anyone.

Other suggestions would be art work that would pick up your Green but not be matchy matchy in colour, going for a few shades up or down on the green.

Plenty of other great suggestion already. Good luck.

Slipper chair in the foreground should go where the small pouf is near the window. Lose the artificial flowers and spray I see in the corners. Lose the irrelevant fountain on the counter, and lose the rug. Add some punch with a colorful tray on the ottoman and some dramatic draperies. Add a few books and a small glass vase with real flowers to the new tray. This is probably one of the best looking rooms I've seen on here--well done!

Better yet--put the blue-ish slipper where the tufted white one is, and put the white one where the pouf is, and lose the pouf.

I think you need some drapes to soften the look a bit. I also like the suggestion of moving the mirror down a bit

Great start! Here is what you should do

    1) Remove rug. Return it and save $
    2) Remove the pouf and vase in right corner
3)Move table that is in front of window to the right of the settee (lamp also)
    4) Move blue slipper chair to right side of window
    5) Move white slipper chair where blue one was
    6) Put small table in btn slipper chairs
    7) Lower starburst
    8) Panel drapes
    9) Consider painting window seat inset teal

Drapery definitely needed to bring in softness and the rug is amiss. Try turning it the other way?

What so elegantly sets your room apart from the rest is that you have not allowed yourself to be seduced into buying some monstrous pit group that faces a huge TV which is right next to a fireplace. It's so refreshing to see the work of an obviously fit person, who probably reads and thinks more than she stares blankly at a TV screen. One more note: all your furniture is tufted. If you decide to replace or add, try one that isn't. And lower that mirror. There, I'm done now. :)

OMG! Thank you guys sooooo much!!! I really appreciate all your suggestions and opinions. I just love the honesty and the candidness! Wow! what a breath of fresh air! I am again inspired! Yay! What you all said make a lot of sense! I will go ahead and shop for some fabulous, classy drapes, lower the star burst mirror or move it to the other smaller wall and put a nice painting instead, lose the rug and see how it will look, re-arrange the slipper chairs, maybe lose the pouf or get a matching pair, get a better looking tray and put some nice books and a smaller flower arrangement for the coffee table...and I'm just getting started...LOL :)

Both of the rugs are too small. They need to be a few inches under the front legs of your furniture. The mirror over the settee is way too high and you need to bring in some color and pattern with fabric at the windows. All those things will totally change your room.

I love the zebra print but I believe that it should be larger it adds an exotic flair to the room. Possibly add some artwork above the gorgeous sofa and drapery panels that pick up on the teal and also move the starburst mirror to the other wall and bring it down a bit.. I would also move the blue chair to the other side of the table so that you have a chair on either side and if you have the space I would create a small seating vignette opposite the window possibly using smaller scale wooden chairs and the pouf in between and for the coffee table I would get a larger bold metallic tray. I love your décor GREAT taste!!!

I do like the zebra rug -- but it seems way too small. I would lose most of the "what-knots" and the pouf. Lower the mirror and find some lovely drapes. Lovely room and you are doing a great job -- just needs a few little tweaks.

I would move the lamp by the window to the end of the sofa so there is a lamp at either end, then I think you need a floor lamp or another table w/ lamp where the floor vase is currently. Then I would move the blue chair so it is next to the other one, and get a small table to put between the 2. and i agree w/ others, don't think you need the rug.

Thanks CDR. Yes, I took it with my new camera (and best lens) on my daughter's beautiful mountain property. I was thinking of it for my living room, but remember, I nixed that idea. Out of the 100 shots I took that day, this is my favorite.

Still working on it...will post photos once the makeover is complete!
    Thanks guys! much appreciated! :)
Yes, that is my baby Zoe, a Pomeranian puppy and unfortunately she is not tufted...LOL :)
So far, as much as i LOVE my Zebra rug, it had to go...i moved it to my bedroom...
Got rid of the pouf and got 2 identical ottoman/stool instead...moved the console table to another room and replaced it with a round side table...
Got a pair of fabulous teal with print curtains which I have yet to hung....
    Re-arranged the slipper chairs...
Will post photos once everything is done.
I have been busy with my garden since Spring has arrived hence bad allergies and the slow progress with my living room... :)

You need drapes. Also the sunburst thing is too high and too small, so if you like it perhaps you have a smaller place for it? The zebra rug is stunning but a little small. Perhaps more black (cushions?) and bring the furniture in will make the rug appear less isolated. Love your taste!
Wow, what a beautiful space! congratulations

Hi Jillybear168.....I LOVED the Zebra rug!! It was just too small. If it was bigger -- it would have made such a great statement in the room. I love your fearless decorating style!

The pillows on the sofa need to pop more. I would do a pop of color with black welt. The black welt in pillows will bring the sofa in line with the zebra rug

Also, the tables are a little cluttered. Put the lamps on either side of a sofa table and framed pics on a table of their own. I personally do not like clutter and nick knacks

I love the zebra rug but put the front legs of the sofa on it. Add drapery panels on the ends of the windows. Lower the sunburst mirror and add more wall art. I would put both chairs on either side of the table in the window area. Brighter. Need brighter colored pillows on the sofa.
Also get rid of the flower vase things in the corners or group them together somewhere.
