I just purchased Viatera Quartz for 2 of my rooms.......and I cannot get it clean to save my life. It is "cotton white".......and every single finger print leaves a mark. I absolutely hate it. I have tried everything to clean, as has a cleaning service and nothing. We haven't even moved into our brand new house and I cannot get this countertop clean. Keep in mind the countertop was covered up until a week ago. I detest Viatera Quartz.

I would check with the fabricator and make sure that they did not put a sealer on top of the slabs. Quartz is never supposed to be sealed.

Try wiping it down with acetone it could be just residue from the plastic they had on it. The glue from the plastic can leave a film that is stubborn to remove.

BUYER BEWARE of LG Quartz. I had my LG Quartz Viaterra Minuet installed 1 year ago and it already looks like we have lived here for 10 years! I am very, very displeased. I have multiple chips on my island and on one slab at the side of my kitchen (I have 5 different slabs in my kitchen since it is a large U) My installer came out to look at it originally and said that this is the first time he has experienced anything like this. So a claim was made w LG and they sent a 3rd party to inspect. They just came back and said that the chips were due to abuse! I am really very unhappy. What I don't understand is how I could abuse the quartz in these areas and see chips. Yet in high use areas around my sink and stove, I have no chips. Its on the island and on one side of my kitchen that doesn't have as much use. To me, this indicates an issue w the material in those particular slabs. Why would my abuse be limited to certain areas that are not even high traffic? The 3rd party inspector even indicated that a couple of the chips that were above the silverware drawer could have been because my kids were playing with knives and cut the quartz? Really? There are only butter knives in that drawer? How would a 12 year old cut quartz w a butter knife? We had granite in my kitchen for 10 years prior to remodeling w the LG Quartz and had 2 chips in the whole kitchen. I thought quartz was supposed to be as durable if not better than granite. I guess not if you buy LG. Anyway, my installer is going to be nice enough to come back and try to smooth out the chips and fill them in. I suspect that we will likely need to do this once a year until I get frustrated enough to spend another $8,000 to replace it with a higher quality product.

what type of edge profile do you have on your quartz? not implying that the abuse claims are true but sometimes the edges can make all the difference from what I have read on here. I have 14 yr old Cambria. No chips at all. I was considering LG for an upcoming remodel but may be I should stick with Cambria! I do have a bullnose edge though, so may be that's why I haven't had any chipping???

I have straight edges on 4 slabs (outside perimeter) and ogee edging on the my island. The edge profile could be some of the issue yet this is what my installer said he does most of the time and doesn't have an issue. The thing that still doesn't make sense is why its only doing it on the island and 1 of the other slabs. The slab around the cooktop and then at my sink are also straight edged but have no chips! And by the way, my installer did say he had a similar warranty issue w Cambria a few years ago and they fixed it vs just denying the claim like LG! Maybe you should stick w Cambria!

Had LG Rococo installed a year ago. I love it but it is already chipped. After reading all of the reviews I wish I had not gone with LG. We purchased through a reputable fabricator but they said the only thing they could do was come out for an $85 fee and fill it in with something that probably won't match the quartz. I was sadly under the assumption that quartz could handle the everyday activities of a kitchen!

That's a shame because that is the same thing that I was told as well. They could fill it in with something to make it look like it wasn't there. My installer said it would look nearly invisible but we'll see. I was also sadly mistaken that normal activities in the kitchen could hold up under quartz. Our granite had been in our kitchen for 10 years and had 1 chip. As I am seeing all these issues w LG, I really just believe its an inferior product that they will not back up. We have also had ours for 1 year and lots of chips already.

I have LG Viatera, and am reasonably certain that it is not an inferior product. I believe that most engineered quartz, no matter what the brand, is going to behave the same. Quartz is not indestructible, and if you check the manufacturer's websites and do online research, you would know that. If a fabricator sold you the product as "bulletproof", then you were misinformed, and I expect that the fabricator is inexperienced. Quartz will absolutely chip. Take a small piece and take a hammer to it - see what happens. It is tough stuff, but you CAN damage it with sharp impact. I do have a single tiny chip in my countertop where a glass fell out of the cabinet and hit the counter just right. But it is so small no one but me would ever notice it. I have zero chips elsewhere. I have a 3/8" positive reveal on my sink, and I think that is one reason I have had no issues there. My countertop edges are bookend profiles, so there is a more rounded edge and this also helps to prevent chips. I don't understand the fingerprint issue at all. I have a glossy finish, and if I press down really hard, and look REALLY closely, I can barely detect a print. But if I walk away and come back, I couldn't even tell you where that was. If you find that you are getting lots of chipping, then you need to look at your edge profile - you probably made the wrong choice there.

I have had my LG Viatera countertop with the ogee edge for 10 years and unfortunately it has a couple of small chips but I can only notice them when I’m wiping down the counters edges. I haven’t had any problems with it and It still looks like it did when it was new. My only regret is I wish I had a lighter color but I still love my countertop.

I had LG Viatera Everest countertops installed 2 months ago. They are beautiful! Easy to keep clean and stunning. I have had no issue with chips so far. The edge is ogee.

I'm sorry to hear about everyone's issues with their LG counter tops. I was considering Minuet or Muse, but now, I'm not so sure. I know, ( kinda an OT weird thing) but, that this is the same LG company that makes the LG appliances, which we were told to stay way away from, so, I don't know if that has anything to do with the customer service you all seem to be getting? This is a completely different section of the LG company, that, I guess has nothing to do with the appliance department, but, it's still the same company, so I don't know. Some love the LG line, but my hubby & I were told that the appliances break down & the customer service is not good, I don't know if this info helps or hurts, I just wanted to relay what I was told. I'd still like to consider their counter tops, but now I'm worried. I really love the Minuet & was told the Muse is just as beautiful, if anyone has pictures of the Muse installed, I'd love to see it & hear your opinion on it. I know nothing is 100% but, this worries me.

Susan, what are you reading? There really isn't a problem with LG, no more than any other quartz manufacturer. I've had my counters in for nearly a year now. Love them.

FWIW, quartz WILL chip. ANY quartz. The composition is the same, no matter the brand.

I actually agree with you, as long as it's at least 95% quartz, there should be no problem, no matter what quartz brand one goes with, but then you hear horror stories, ugg, so hard. I actually got to see a slab of the minuet this past weekend, beautiful! A little creamier than I expected, but still very nice.

This whole chipping thing with the quartz is still puzzling to me and will probably never be able to really say why its occurring. What makes no sense to me is that we can't be that hard on our countertops. We had granite counters for almost 10 years in the same kitchen layout and had very few chips. Quartz is supposed to be stronger in everything I've read. But now we've had these counters for a little over a year and have had literally 5x as many chips in 1 year as we had in 10 years with granite . Something has to be wrong with the material. Whether its an issue with LG in general or just with the slab of material we received, something isn't right. But since the manufacturer won't back it up, I guess I have to just live with it. Still disappointed and still wouldn't recommend LG for this reason.

Have LG Viatera Nocturne, "new" color. DREADFUL!! Looks OK in the dark, but as soon as a light goes on, it's NASTY. Looks like a black car that someone waxed and forgot to wipe off. STRANGE gray cast over it. Now that I have it and have complained to LG as well as the fabricator, I'm advised by the fabricator that there are "issues" w/the dark colors. No one could have mentioned that? LG's "third party" inspection (that's a joke, they pay them) even admitted it was wrong, and there was obviously a problem in manufacture, but LG will NOT honor any waranty. They insist the majority of the problems w/poor color matching is a fabricator issue. Hell, the fabricator can only work w/the product they are given. The name LG is on the work van of the fabricator, that implies at least tacit approval by LG of the workers ability. They should honor their waranty, not counting on it. I'm out thousands of dollars for an inferior product. The retailer I dealt with is threatening a lien because I refuse to finish paying for something that is not right. Don't want them to bear the brunt, but they haven't been any help either. I'm trying the Better Business Bureau, Consumer Reports and any other outlet I can find. In the meantime, if anyone reading this had considered LG quartz product, DON'T DO IT!!! You'll regret it. They like to brag about being an American company w/an American product. Ha! I have had LG Viatera aria countertops for several years...no problems at all. No streaking, no chipping. It seems very durable in my opinion.

I have LG Viatera Minuet for 14 months and absolutely no problems. It’s looks as good today as installation.

don martin : that is a very common complain in the market for customers that installed engineered, thou most times it is a customer perception; you don`t like how the light reflects on the product... that does not mean the product has a defect.

Sales people across the country have to start better showing how the light reflects on the engineered surface. Light is a big thing too at our homes.

I have cotton white and I see stains/darker areas that look almost oily from day 1 of install that u can't remove. the countertop is in our bathroom and when the faucets were installed metal marks were left that I can't remove with soap, mild cleaners, and non-abrasive scrub pads. I also noticed a coffee ring this week and wiped it immediately but the stain is still there after days of cleaning and scrubbing? anybody else have these issues? I have marble white countertops in my kitchen and coffee rings are easily wiped and don't stain marble - so why is this happening with quartz? should I call the installer?

I had that oily stain look on my island from day 1 also. Installer tried everything to remove but couldn’t get it out. I have LG Minuet. I have had numerous other issues including chipping in edges that I have not been happy with and it’s only occurring on some slabs (not all) in my kitchen. LG sent their inspector out but said it was rough use and would replace the chipping (even though it only chipped on some slabs). So obviously I’m not a big fan of LG Quartz. I’ve nit had issues w a stain not coming out. I use 409 multi purpose cleaner and sometimes let it sit for a bit. Seems to take even red stains like pomegranate juice out. Sounds like you’ve tried a lot. Maybe installer would know a trick. Good luck!

My quartz looks tha same as the day it was installed. Edges chipping usually is caused by getting an improper profile. Fabricator should know better. ALL quartz will chip...exactly the same.

We had LG Viatera Cirrus installed in April 2017. Even though we were told that Quartz is the most sturdy material for kitchen, we try to be careful, like using placemats, trivets to avoid heat and scratches. Few weeks go, we noticed a yellow discoloring patch next to our sink, where we put hand washed dishes to dry on a dish towel. I called LG customer service seeking advice. I was told that I should file a warranty claim. Their third party contractor came out. Used some cleaners, then polished with a hand polisher. The result was that not only the discoloring remained, the polish made that patch more shiny and noticeable! LG followed up with an email stating that this issue was due to “abuse, misuse”. If leaving water and wet dish towels on kitchen counter constitute abuse, and misuse, then I would have never considered installing quartz in a kitchen or bathroom! We had marble and corian for decades, never had any issues. We will never consider LG Viatera products.

sylviapliu , I have never had anything, NOTHING, to stain my quartz. Not one single thing. I leave water, coffee drips, PAINT even...all come up easily. I don't even THINK about what I leave on it, frankly. Sounds like you have something else going on. How about a picture?

The factory rep who "polished" the area probably caused more damage than help. Try GENTLY using Mr. Clean Magic Eraser OR Simple Green Concentrate to clean the area.

Wow, we were fully committed to going with LG Viatera Cirrus for our kitchen renovation but after reading, I'm concerned about that choice. We'd also looked at Cambria, Silestone, and Color Surface. Should we still be concerned? We were specifically looking for the non gloss option. Would love to know recent experiences. Thank you!

I’ve had my LG Viatera Rococco now for about 14 months. I love it! Looks like new still. Easy to clean. No chipping, discoloration issues. Ogee edge. It’s really stunning. Looks nearly identical to marble, but I don’t have to worry about staining. I couldn’t be happier. I’m sorry to hear people are having trouble.

Very few are. Mine is nearly 2 years old now. Looks just like new.

I am ready to order Viatera Clarino for three bathrooms next week. Should I be concerned? I was thinking eased edge or would I have less issues with chipping with crescent edge?

I have lg viatera rococco in my kitchen. I have a large 10' bar. In the light I can see what looks like to be spill marks. I have no idea what they could be from. I clean with a wet rag and dawn dish soap. Occasionally I have used windex without amonia. My house is a new build. Can anyone help me with this issue? I've tried contacting Lg, but I can't seem to find a number for them. Only an email. I'm thinking these just might be imperfections in the stone, but you would have thought I would have noticed them sooner.

Try some acetone on a clean white rag first, please. Your top can be refinished with a Quartz Renew kit, but that's not a DIY project.

I am considering installing Viatera Etude in my kitchen. My cabinets are very white and I am looking for something that will blend with them and has subtle veining. I only have a small sample. It appears white but not as white as my cabinets. Any suggestions?

mcapozella - The website describes it as a "warm bright white design with grey and gold long thin veins", so it would probably not be good with cooler (brighter) whites. I would choose a cooler white quartz. Muse is certainly a better choice in my view. There are some good pics in this thread.

I had my Viatera Calacatta installed a couple weeks ago. I have had many quartz countertops and never had an issue.
From the day of install, nothing but problems. The fabricator left many long scratches, there are chips and discoloration all over. There is a greasy film on the counters. Anything that is touching it leaves dark marks that I have to use soft soap, recommended by installer, to clean. I have a refinisher at my home now trying to buff out all of the imperfections. He said it is an inferior product.
I tried to get a resolution with my fabricator but they don’t care.
So disappointed because I had a complete kitchen remodel that took ten weeks to complete. I will have to replace the counters if the buffing doesn’t work.

sianwidner1 You may have received an inferior/damaged slab or (it sounds like) an awful installation from an incompetent installer, but LG Viatera is certainly not an inferior product. My counters look just the same as they did when they were installed years ago. No marks, no film. And cleaning them is super easy.

I have worked for a kitchen and bath showroom for over 10 years and we've been selling all brands of quartz - LG included. We've never had a customer complain about LG quartz. That being said, some of the customer complaints about chipping are due to some type of abuse or accident ON THE CUSTOMER'S END (e.g.., dropping a can on the corner can cause it to chip, etc.). I'm not saying that accidents don't happen, but nine out of ten times, the customer is responsible for the chips. Our customers are asked to "sign off" on installs - that means they have to inspect the countertop thoroughly for cracks, chips, discoloration, etc. BEFORE the installers leave. If there is an issue, obviously we take care of it - including replacing a section of the countertop, if needed. So, no customer is going to accept a countertop if it's chipped when installed. If they call up afterwards and say the top chipped - it's because of something that THEY did!! Sorry, but some people want to blame the product for the fact that they cannot take care of things properly!

When you're a warranty agent for a manufacturer, you have three choices. Fabricator/installer error, manufacturer defect, and customer abuse. The latter always leads.

Not always the issue. My counter was installed and covered while the contractor was working on the kitchen. Now as we ready to uncover and wipe down the counters we notice a small hole/chip like in the stone. We haven’t even cooked in the kitchen yet. It was just completed. Right towards the middle of the island. So please don’t say its always customer error. I am so upset. We just found this. Its the first time we are wiping the counters down

We really liked the look of brushed encore and we brought a sample home. Did a stain test with beta carotene, catsup, turmeric, and wet pink paper.

None of the “quality” quartzes we have ever tried stained like this. Not even a magic eraser completely removed the turmeric and the pink. I’ve never seen turmeric stain so fast. As we washed it in the sink even the water rinsing the turmeric spread and stained.

We also did the same test to a Cambria sample that was much lighter (so should have been worse). But it 1) didn’t stain as fast 2) didn’t stain as much 3) came off. Shame. We liked the lg brushed encore look better, but I cannot live like that.

We installed LG Viatera White Solace quartz when we built in 2019, and it was easily the worst decision of our build. The countertop stains incredibly easily. Manufacturer, fabricator, and general contractor all shrugged and said oh well and moved on. The best solution for stains has been a thick baking soda and water paste, and then I scrub as hard as I can. Sometimes the stain comes out, but a lot of times it is simply dulled to the point of being unnoticeable unless you already know the stain is there.

Perhaps we simply received a bad batch, but I would never purchase LG quartz again.
