well I don't think your kitchen looks that bad. I have had horrible kitchen which looked far worse and were far less functional. LOoks like you have a small galley kitchen and white is bright and clean looking and would give a greater sense of space than darker colors.
Given your window is above the sink do you really want a fussy window dressing which will subjected to water and near food. A simple blind would suffice , and would allow you to add some color. The light fitting is odd looking,replacing it with something else would help a lot. Is the floor damaged or you just don't like it? Black and white tiles/square are a classic look.

Unless these photos are deceptive the kitchen looks to be in good shape. Do you really want to replace the floor and paint the cupboards when you really want to do a total makeover.? Renovating is so expensive. do you really want to spend money on very temporary changes you will discard soon? I think a nice colored blind, one or two pictures on the walls, a nice potp lant or vase of flowers on the bench top, some color coordinated kitchenware and the space would look quite warm, friendly and bright .

How about leaving the floor and cabinets and removing the countertop if you dislike it?

I also don't think its that bad either. Embrace the colors with some accent pieces.
Is the hardware Gold? Change to stainless steel. Maybe accessories with black/white/blue.

Add a little yellow to the mix for some pizazz and change the knobs to stainless, I have seen MUCH worse kitchens

actually I love the counter top and backsplash, I have issue with the floor and the gold knobs. I switch out the knobs on all cabinets. I accessory using some yellow, different shades of blue.

When I was picking out a kitchen combo last year this exact one was my second choice. Decided against it because the white was too bright for my kitchen which has a wall of windows.
Of course that doesn't mean this is the right kitchen for you, just saying it is a nice kitchen. Agree that yellow or red or any bright color that you like could help make it yours. You don't have to spend buckets of money to make a place yours. Give it a year and see if you still hate it.

Why don't you start by changing the knobs on the cabinets and see how you like it then!

If money's not an issue, I would replace the appliances for stainless steel, add a new chrome hood on top of the stove, and two small gorgeous chandeliers on the ceiling; replace the knobs on the cabinets for elongated chrome ones; replace the window curtain for a "Roman shade", and replace the counter tops for a gorgeous "cherry red" concrete slab.
With a limited budget, I would simply replace the knobs on cabinets, replace curtain for Roman Shade in your favorite color (including some blue to incorporate the counter color) in a fun pattern, add some art work on the wall and the chanderliers on ceiling. :)

I would leave the cabinets as is - white is clean and versatile.

If you really don't like the counters, take a look at the instock preformed laminate counters at Lowes or Home Depot. They have some very realistic granite/marble patterns and they would work easily with your straight layout. It would probably only be a few hundred dollars and DIY. See some examples below.

Once you've picked out your countertop, I would then pick a nice peel and stick vinyl tile. Home Depot and Lowes also have a fairly large selection of these in a faux wood or stone look. Some of the stone look ones are even groutable.

I think one of these would look really nice with your cabinets. Left is from HD and right from Lowes. (ps Lowes is having a 20% sale on these countertops now.)

I like the blue. I'd get rid of the floor and back splash.

Only you know what bothers you the most. Definitely change out the hardware. Either change the floor or the counters, whichever is worse for you or do both if your budget allows. I think it's a good looking kitchen.. Yes, that floor is classic!

Change the hardware, paint the walls, and add a woven shade. You will be amazed at what a difference that will make.

I love your kitchen! I'd prefer different colored counters, but it's a minor issue to me. Once you get some stuff in it, you'll hardly see those counters. I'd make this kitchen pop with bright red, yellow and blue accents. A couple of bright pop art oil paintings (think of Lichtenstein prints) and maybe I'd even do an accent wall in bright red. But I'd have to lose that florescent overhead light! I am shopping for a house now and I'm dying to have that floor in my kitchen!

I see many are a fan of the flooring- however it is not real tiles, it is a sticky vinyl and the black is just painted on (and poorly so!)- so flooring is a no-brainer must-go. The horrid blue counter tops- are actually pretty awesome considering they are corian, I wouldn't want to swap them out- I should have worded things better and more clear. The issue I have with the counter top is that I think they are super hard to match any decor with! However, many have posted some very amazing ideas and photos- I think I have a few ideas, not sure exactly yet what we will do- but you have all given me hope on making the what I call 'speckled Wal-mart blue' texture/color work! The blue counters are not my taste, but if they are Corian I would keep them over changing out to laminate. It looks like your galley kitchen is in a little older of a home (is that parquet in the background?) so I do like the checkerboard floor, that being said, if it's poorly done or in bad shape I would start there, a VCT or marmoluem (aka linoleum) tile floor would look great in this style of a kitchen, I'm not a big fan of the extreme contrast of black and white, but there are way more colors available in different shades of neutral, or even blues and you can tie in all sorts of patterns and keep the character of the kitchen, changing out the backsplash is another easy, inexpensive fix, but those 4" white tiles are pretty classic...definitely do something with that bright brass hardware though, I think antique brass would be the better choice in here.

Do something really snazzy with your decor and the counters will be a backdrop.

Use a red/white fabric for a roman shade. Put a red KitchenAid mixer on the counter. Put up some blue/white plates. Changing the floor will make a world of difference.

In neautral with accents running vertical near the stove. If there's hardwood in the home, match in kitchen as well if not use a larger 18x18 floor tile nice tight grout lines.

I like blue counter. I think the black-and-white floor is too much contrast - it is what I saw first . Maybe a white tile with a bit a blue or grey.

Take it classic with lots of blue and white porcelain like blue willow or Chinese Ginger jars. The floor is very classic too. With the blue and white accessories you can add red or yellow or natural materials like baskets and bamboo blinds. The thing to change is the ceiling fixture.

I'd go with hex tiles for the floor, and copper accents for the counters. A European café look.

I actually think that your kitchen has a pretty decent start to becoming a fun place to perform everyday tasks. The room beyond the door appears to need more than your kitchen. You did not mention your tastes in decor, but you did mention budget.

You are right about the back splash tile, but you might be able to live with it for awhile if other things are done. That way you can save your money for a complete makeover in the future.

Here are two very budget friendly items to begin to make your corian and floor work better together.
1) A long runner in a fairly solid color. I am not sure that the images loaded, but I found some on overstock.com for under $100.

2) A simple flat roman shade at the window. When down it gives privacy, and when up it appears to be a valance that will tie in colors, and add interest.

Taking down the fluorescent light will probably require a little bit of ceiling repair, but it will make a lot of difference to your enjoyment of the space. Just be sure you replace it with a fixture that has a lot of light or pair it with under counter lighting. We replaced our fluorescent box light with a track lighting system, but it still doesn't come close to providing the light we took out. We will be adding led tape lights under and above cabinets.

I agree that a new light fixture is needed. The updated flooring would make a huge difference. A mosaic backsplash I would recommend. The cabinets will work just fine. Figure out where you want the contrasting color. Maybe paint the wall a bit darker since everything else is white.
