Will dark cabinets work?

I'm a traditionalist and love a darker 'furniture finish' kitchen cabinet, with a wow color pop here and there. We are gutting and remodeling an existing 1960s kitchen, so have cabinets, flooring, countertops to play with.
The kitchen space is 13'2"W x12'10"D. No windows but a skylight and a window in the adjacent dining room.
Am I crazy thinking 'black heirloom' or the like in this space??

Good lighting can make up for a lot. Engage a lighting designer during the planning phase.

I'd also suggest moving the cleanup sink to the fridge run, and only having a small prep sink on your island. Youu better split the prep and cleanup zones that way and have a more useful island on which to spread out and prep.

If your dream kitchen is a dark or black one, I say go for it. Good lighting and contrasting (lighter walls, countertop and backsplash) colours will keep it from becoming a 'dark hole'.

Okay, I'm not a pro, so can give you only my personal opinion. I'd go with a medium coloured floor. Will your floor be the same throughout the entire space? You should also take your other furniture into consideration.

The appliance placement shown in the plans is strictly 'placeholder', the comments on sink placement are very helpful. I'm leaning towards centering the cooktop on the 13'2" wall. Open for ideas!

The black could look striking. I agree go for it if you love it! Does that door need to open into the kitchen? Could you move it to open into the W/D and create a mud room area? Then you could move the fridge down and center the stove. I think the fridge there will be a logjam.

We used chocolate cabinets, light mossy counters , light tan tile floors and can lights . It looks amazing and everyone loves it

laurakdesigns: I actually had the door opening into the w/d in the original design but the mud room was so tight I moved it. You think the fridge should center on the wall now showing the garage door? Would you recommend the sink in the island?

Could you extend the counter along the garage wall to end so it's "even" with the island, then put the fridge on that wall? Now that I'm looking at this again, it's not making sense to have a door so close to the stove either. If you were able to use that whole corner for the kitchen, you'd have more room for the stove and fridge, could put them both on that wall. Then you keep the magical triangle workspace too...I think I'd go with a tight mud room so you could get the space in the kitchen.
