The information here is not quite accurate. There is a real difference between them which is the mounting hardware/screws. Standard drawer pulls come with 8/32" screws, which are used for opening a drawer or anything else that does not require much force. Appliance handles come with 10/32" screws, which are thicker, and are used for appliances, which require more force to open, such as a subzero fridge which has large doors. You can try to use a regular drawer handle put it's possible that over time the 8/32" screw will give and come off the drawer handle. It may even be stripped.
