How is the hood connected to the ventilation outside? It's nice not to see the pipe from the top of the cabinet.

Duct goes horizontally out the wall below the window

Since the Miele hood duct vents out of the top of the unit, did you use an elbow to get the duct to run horizontally out the wall, or did you retrofit the hood to vent out the back of the unit?

Since the hood is on an outside wall, the simplest & most reliable solution is to use a 90-degree elbow to turn the duct. "Retrofitting" a range hood would involve much more work with cutting things, drilling holes, etc.
