I avoid it as much as possible, but on the rare occasion, I still have to haul that thing out. :)

I do still iron, I also press because I sew. And I currently do it all in the kitchen. Eventually we'll be moving into the 'forever home' and I'll have a sewing room where I'll do all the ironing, pressing, and sewing:)

I use the spare bedroom. I unfortunately still iron a lot.

I have a great relatively-new laundry room that has room for ironing. And a small wall-mounted t.v. to boot! Makes one of my least favorite chores a bit easier to do.

ditto with sara use the spare bedroom room too for ironing and drying my clothes on my clothes dryer;) perks of living in an apartment with no balcony:(

I have a built-in ironing board in my master bedroom walk-in closet just like the one above.

I have converted a unused bedroom into a dedicated store room with built in shelves, folding table and an ironing board up all the time as I tend to iron as needed. It is one of the best ideas we had in our renovators delight home we are doing up.

Everywhere! Oh wait, sorry, I thought you said "irony". Iron, hmm, I know I have one somewhere. Use the ironing board for extra work bench space when I'm staining something.

I don't iron unless it's a special occasion. I quilt, so my ironing board is always out in my quilting studio for when I need to press my seams.

Since retired husband still prefers all-cotton button up shirts (forget it, I have tried to persuade him otherwise...no go), I iron about every two weeks and set the damn thing up in the living room where I watch Scandal on TV. There has to be some compensation for a rotten chore.

My line is it is against my religion ,but seriously it hangs on a door in the laundry and is drug into the living room when pressed into service. That is usually when I can't bear for one of us to be seen in rumpled dress clothes.

Unfortunately in the hallway, and when we are ready to wear that day!

I too have one of those built in ironing boards but no one left the instructions on how to use it when we bought the house;)

I don't iron. If I am forced into it, in the master in front of the tv.

We never owned an iron until my sister stayed several days with us and insisted on us having one for her to use. We haven't used it since she left, haha. In fact, I have no idea where it is :( but were we to iron we would probably do it in the laundry room at our new house or living room at our current apartment.

Anywhere I can find a spare exposed plug, depending on how I have arrange the furniture in my usual haunts (my little sitting room or the kids front play room if it is cleaned up enough). Unfortunately for me, my husband loves his western shirts which he wears whenever we go good places so I have to iron at least once a fortnight, and they are so annoying to do. I use to get my mother to do it whenever she visited because she liked doing ironing, but even she hates doing his shirts.

I iron my husband's work shirts & khaki's once a week. As both an enticement & reward for taking on this chore, I watch my choice of Netflix movie while I'm ironing. So, my ironing takes about an hour & then I relax for the remainder of the show.

Used to be up all the time in the master closet until we remodeled the room and got a closet system and then it stood out like a sore thumb. But it was just a surface to toss stuff on for the most part. Now it is the unfinished basement and I find I just don't iron much anymore.

I usually iron in the laundry room with a towel on the counter. I don't bother with an ironing board. I love using linen spray when I iron shirts, Caldrea's Lavender Pine is my favorite scent.

We have a built-in ironing board in our laundry room, and someday it's coming out. I don't iron--well, maybe twice a year? only if i HAVE to!--and the ironing board is ugly on the wall.

I've had a built in ironing board in the laundry room before and the trouble is that it's too small for big ironing jobs (like curtains, tablecloths, etc.) and you have to drag your clothes from your bedroom to the laundry room to iron them. I have a large walk in closet where the ironing board stays set up. This has been the best option by far for me. If you have a spare room or large closet where you can keep it up, go with that. If you don't iron often or everyday, just get a nice ironing board and iron and keep them in the closet.

I confess I have almost a fetish about ironed shirts but it is a lonely task if one does a pile of them at once, so like others I haul out the ironing board and park it in front of the tv on Sunday nights. Too bad Downton Abbey is off until January--ironing with the downstairs staff just feels right.

Seldom iron these days but when I did I preferred to do it in front of TV and not in an isolated laundry area!

Laundry is in the basement and so are the iron and ironing board, which are used as little as possible. And ladies, there is no law that says husbands cannot iron their own clothing. A scorched cuff here, a burned finger there just might relax their oh-so high grooming standards. Worth a shot.

I use a small tabletop ironing board & iron on my island in the kitchen every morning then I put both away,

the few times a year I actually iron I pull out my mini ironing board and set it on the dining room table. I can't stand ironing....

@einportlandor, my husband does not have high grooming standards. He would (and used to) iron his own shirts, but only his dress shirts. I think of it as a trade off: since I can't bear the sight of a rumpled shirt and he would walk around in them oblivious to the wrinkles and my discomfort, I do all the ironing. He does the grocery shopping, which I hate even more than ironing!

Edith - Sounds like you've worked out a good system. My (now ex) husband wore dress shirts to work every day and liked them not only crisply ironed but cuffs and collars STARCHED! Yeah. I sweetly suggested the neighborhood dry cleaner. My mother was aghast. I don't think he wears dress shirts anymore.

I bring the ironing board (which we keep in a corner of our bedroom) in the dining room to iron while watching something nice on the laptop that always sits on one end of our dining table. I don't mind ironing so much.

I'd done enough ironing for a lifetime by the time I was eighteen, and can probably still bang out a perfect men's shirt in sixty seconds blindfolded. So these days I go "wrinkle free," through the wash and then to the dry cleaners for extra starch. But yes, there's a portable at the back of the closet just in case. (And a natty CFO in the house to keep the dry cleaner in business.)

I actually have 2 places in my home where I can iron. My finished basement is home to my family room, craft room, and laundry/sewing room. I keep the ironing board set up in the sewing area, since I sew a lot--draperies, curtains, duvet covers, etc.--and it is right next to the washing machine as well. In the craft room next door to the laundry, I made a HUGE craft table--60" x 80"--and I have a cordless iron in there, so I can iron very large pieces of fabric, such as curtain panels. The top of the craft table is wood, so all I have to do is put a thin blanket on top of it and I am ready to iron. Ironing is not my particular favorite of household chores, BUT I like the feel of freshly washed and ironed sheets.

I have a nice laundry room, but it isnt big enough to do everything I want it to do.....is it ever? right now my iron is in spare room closet, but I would like to get a built in folding one in the laundry room. I dont iron often - but it would be convient.

Very rarely iron, but when I do, I haul the ironing board and iron into the master bedroom from the garage (no laundry room - washer and dryer in garage, but no place in garage with the right combo of space and electrical outlet to iron).

Did lot of it when I was young girl and think I do it pretty well...
At my TX home I have drop down/wall mounted shorter board in laundry room..and also have an IPad and WiFi so I watch Netflix and Amazon Prime or other stuff when I iron...
which probably doesn't really seem Zen but it is relaxing for me...

In FL I usually find myself ironing in the master bedroom and watching television...
The floor is laminate and when I spray, the fallout can get a little damp...but it is convenient to the master closet for hanging stuff up...
I have a T-Fal iron in FL that I started using recently and I love it--
gets hot enough for cottons and stays hot...
When my TX iron goes out--and I go through a lot of irons--I am ordering one for there as well...

PS-- my daughter hit the jackpot--her husband (my wonderful SIL) knows how to iron and does all his own because he does it better than she can -- or cares to learn...there can be method in that madness...

I must admit I am retired teacher now so have lots of free time to indulge this weird passion--I even iron my 20 mo old grandson's clothes at times...
there is something about freshly-pressed cotton that makes you feel special...and I want him to know that feeling...

My laundry room is on the second floor. It's too small for ironing, so when I have to do so, I set up the ironing board in the loft/office, which is next to the laundry room.. I have a small tv in there and usually go to town. When I'm done, I take it down and put it in back in the laundry room!

I'm installing a dedicated cupboard in living room because that's where I iron. Anyone else done this?

The ironing board just leans against the wall in laundry room when not is use. I need to get one of those hooks specifically for hanging the ironing board on the wall!
