Paint cupboards. Change hardware. New table.

Have you priced replacing them? There are some very inexpensive brands out there and it doesn't look like you have a big kitchen

Painting the cabinets is a great option. I think the black appliances look harsh. Can you replace those? A couple of cute pendant lights above the sink would be great. What are your favorite colors? A blue or green tone on the walls would be a nice splash of color. A new taller gooseneck style faucet would add dimension over the sink with that blank wall space. New hardware is a given, but is a new countertop in the budget?

What's the difference? I just want a more modern kitchen I am just bored with mine but new appliances are not an option. New counters and sink are a definite. I would like more cabinet space somehow

More cabinet space requires new cabinets. And that could fix that horribly dysfunctional sink area. But that also reqires a bigger budget and some good DIY skills or an even bigger budget to pay labor.

So how much do you want to spend here to accomplish your goals? And what type of DIY skills and tools can you bring to the project? Gotta have cash or skills, one or the other.

If you want to do it on budget
- try ikea for new cabinets it would not be expensive. Other option check home depot etc as sometimes they clear out their demo kitchens @ good price
- if you are prepared to paint - consider black base cabinets & light grey upper cabinets with new handles . Maybe peel and stick tiles on floor

That's a great idea but I would have a 5 inch gap between the new cabinets on top and the ceiling.i would have to use molding to cover the gap because my ceiling is textured. How would that look?

You can take cabinets right to the ceiling no problem with a very simple plain moulding to close the small gap.

Your wall cabinets look to be the standard 30" height. From what I see in your photo, the soffit looks to be a little less that half the height of your cabinets or approx. 12". Am I missing something here?

Yes the problem is not from the cabinets to the ceiling it is on the ceiling because my ceilings are textured and I don't know if I can create the same textured pattern

I also think adding under cabinet lighting, as well as updated light fixtures would make a huge difference.

It's difficult to tell the colors in the flooring, partially because of poor lighting. Lighting is the first thing I would suggest tackling, especially if you are thinking of going with a black paint that will make things appear even darker. Beefed up central lighting and adding under-cabinet lighting would help. Now back to the floor color....If there are taupe or brown hues in the flooring I would suggest thinking of going with a chocolate or espresso color instead of basic black. It will give the room more of a warm modern look.

Here is an off-black in the island.


The second picture of interest has off-white cabinets (you can see the difference in whites between the ceiling and cabinets) and a brown subway tile full backsplash. If you are handy, maybe you could do that yourself as well.

Paint applianes silver & get a backsplash, no picture. A different pendent.

Paint cabinets to a dark shade of brown, and replace handles with silver rod types. If you can afford it, I would just tear them down and build new ones. Try knocking down the wall we are looking directly at (if it is facing the living room) and add an island. Then take all the cupboards knocked down an put it against the wall we can see (behind camera). I don't know if that is how the kitchen is set up, so maybe more pictures would help

And add backsplash (& granite counter tops if you can afford it). It is a lot of money but it will help raise the price of the home if you decide to eventually sell
