If you want to emphasize the tile, I would match the grout color as close as possible to the tile color.

If you want a big contrast, then I would go for a darker color. By doing so, you will emphasize the pattern. Contrasting colors are often used for a more "historic" look. Choose the darker color in your tile.

Either way, your fireplace will be the focal point of your room. (Personally, 99% of the time, I match my tile.

I just did a google search on grey tiles with grout. I saw all different concepts. They had white, grey and even a red grout. I would have to say if you go with a light grey grout color you can not go wrong.

What color grout did you end up using?

Sorry for the delay responding. I used the Home Depot oyster grey grout. Here's a picture from further back. Ignore my empty walls :) Haven't gotten to them yet.
