Water bed turned into bookcases, trampoline frames into greenhouse, corrugated tin roofing into chicken house doors -no hinges or locks needed as it has self-springiness built in and just needs a eye and latch hook to hold it closed.

I made a Prairie Settle from scratch. I liked it and reproductions were not commercially available at the time, so I built it myself. This is a stock image of one.

of course not! but it certainly is fun to have a 'partner in crime' ... and if you do not, architects and design firms can spring into action ;))

I made a headboard out of old panel doors. Stripping the years of old paint nearly drove me crazy, but the end result was worth it!

My "partner in crime" now owns my Prairie Settle.

We have lovingly been working the past few years on our very modest cottage on Lake Huron Everything we do is DIY as we do not have a large budget for Renos we have to think outside the box roll up our shirt sleeves get creative and busy we have many projects yet to complete but so far have laid old barn wood planks sanded and stain to update our great room floors and installed a 70s kitchen cabinets paint and hardware to bring a fresh look to the kitchen back splash windows and counter tops next as well as painting the cottage exterior

I'm in the middle of replacing the cabinets in our kitchen. The 45 degree angle is what has made this a challenging project. There's two more cabinets still to come one of which will also have a 45 degree side.

Nice space saver

We built this garden shed from scratch with collected materials. The siding is from an old barn. The windows were salvaged from a neighbor's house (they had new windows put in). The door used to be on our house. The roof shingles were leftover from the re-roofing of our house. The floor is made up of deck planks from another neighbor's tear down. The potting bench base is from an iron patio table we found at the curb. The top of the table is made out of planks from a dismantled cold frame. And there is even a simple skylight that was leftover from a friend's construction job. The kids and some friends helped us build it in one weekend. It was fun!

I would love to see some of the true vintage mason jar lights in this room.

We probably wouldn't have half the things we have if we didn't DIY...but we also love it...so much satisfaction and sense of accomplishment and we have learned so many skills that now we don't feel intimidated when we take on a project...we dreamed of having a cottage but all we could afford were the fixer-uppers. We found one nobody wanted because it was so ugly. We fell in love with it at first sight and did everything ourselves with some imagination and practically no money. We saved and scrimped and finally managed to get a steel roof put on but that was the only thing we hired out. We still have plans to keep improving our little boathouse but we love it like family!
