First thing I'd do would be to find another location for the TV, replace the loveseat with a pair of chairs and select a new rug. TV might be better on the wall where the clock is. Mount it on the wall on a swing arm device to adjust for viewing. Or you could possibly put it where the loveseat is. Either way the large sofa will need to go perpendicular to the FP.

It looks like your loveseat is a bit lonely where it is. Maybe you could move it a couple of feet to the right? Trying and make it connect more to the sofa.

If you remove the tie backs from the curtains, you will have a more up-to-dare look. Also, longer curtains that are mounted about a foot higher than the window, and with the rod extending about a foot on each side of the window, will have a grander look, as well as make your window (and room) look bigger.

A textured, woven tray like this one from West Elm will help corral the remotes on the coffee table, as well as offer another layer of interest.

If you remove all the smaller objects from the FP mantle and just leave the two candlesticks and the sculpture, you will also have a more modern look. Maybe move the candlesticks and the sculpture just a bit closer together - so that the smaller candlestick is overlapping the art, and the sculpture is just an inch or so to the left of it.

The tV cannot be mounted on the wall since there are pillars which separate the living room and the dining room and kitchen so it would obstruct the view
As far as a new rug do you think a dark rug would look more better than a lighter color such as beige ?? This is the part I am really struggling

Agree I need to remove the curtain tie backs however at this point I am not planning to replace the curtains :(
