Wood flooring provides a warmer feel and easier on the feet.

Wood flooring has been popular for hundreds of years for a reason. Its beautiful and can easily be maintained, especially if you use a traditional polyurethane finish. The floors in my home are 60 years old and look new after being refinished two years ago. They will likely last over 100 years at this rate. :-)

I think it depends on how you live in your home. We have a dog, we both work, we aren't walking around with a broom and a mop all day. When we bought our current house it had wood floors in the entry, kitchen and dining rooms, and carpet everywhere else. We replaced the carpet with tile.

Now, some years later, the wood floors are completely trashed. And the tile floors look like new.

The new home we are building will have tile floors but also have some wood floors because wood can be better than tile for sound control. Wood floors are cheaper to install. Wood doesn't really go out of style (though the various wood types come and go i.e. oak). But we expect that the wood will need to be refinished as Lampert Dias Architects says so that needs to be factored into the cost.

Some tiles go out of style. However you can mitigate this by selecting classic tiles as opposed to the flavor of the month tiles.

Wood all the way. When considering the darker the stain is the more dust that shows same with less grain like cherry or maple. I like 4 or 5" red oak. It is warmer than white oak oak is more forgiving with scratches too.
