In this bathroom we created a recess with sheetrock and used an LED lighting strip in the recess. We have also used this same concept with stone slabs (see photos below).

The strips are easily accessible from the sides of the sheetrock/slabs. There is about 4" from the back of the slab to the wall. They are LED so they should not need to be changed for a long time! The lighting strips are wired to a dimmer on the wall.

so is there actually an open gap with the sheetrock set forward from wall with a recessed edge around it? how do you finish this off adequaltely?
