I don't know. I do know that they are functional, and I just put them in in my new house. I wouldn't go putting them in a formal living room, dining room, or kitchen though...and personally, I don't like the ones with the three light light kits. I live in the coastal south, though, so ceiling fans are almost a must to deal with the summers!

From a certain perspective...No. There are certain days i want air movement but don't want to turn on portable fan or have the windows opened

The ones in kitchens are nice to have while cooking, but the top sides have to cleaned periodically as the dust tends to stick there

I don't see many photos with kitchen ceiling fans but I replaced mine with my kitchen remodel. It wasn't easy finding the right size and style but I did it. My contractor said I didn't need one because I have an exhaust hood to outside but I use like the fan in the summer when I'm preparing summer time meals, i.e., salads. Can't use the fan while cooking as the flames move under a pan with the fan on. Oddly, the flames don't dance when no pans are on the flame.

Ceiling fans have come a long way. They are an easy "fix" for homes that do not have air conditioning. As you can see, ceiling fans are a "must have" in many hot/humid areas. They are easy to operate and do not drain every cent you have to keep them running.

I too am in coastal S Florida and they are an absolute necessity here. Not in the kitchen, but certainly in the family room and bedroom areas. Used properly your ceiling fans move the air and control your a/c costs substantially.

Gee, even if they are out, they are IN in our condo as we just installed two in each bedroom here on Cape Cod. We don't have cross ventilation (windows only on one side), so we know these fans will help.
