Hi. The buffet was a family piece handed down. The original owner lived in Kentucky. It was made by John D. Raab, a noted furniture designer and manufacturer. He wasn't in business that long and was said to be ahead of his time. His pieces were made well. I've seen one other like this one, in Nashville, TN about 30 years ago.

It is early 1900's, not exactly sure, probably between 1910 and 1920. I had this piece and the others in this dining room appraised for historical value so we would know if we should refinish or not. The answer was NOT. I love the dark patina on the old Mahogany, so no problem.

I have seen similar John D. Raab dining pieces on and off for auction. His chairs are okay, but the buffets and servers and tables seem to have a very nice and unique character.

Yes. I saw a few of his chairs on line which were alright, but definitely like items like this one better. Cool to have such unique historical pieces to pass on. Thanks for the info. :-)
