Jessica, beautiful cookies! Don't be afraid of white! I have had 15 children decorating gingerbread around our island and it was easy to clean up afterwards! :)

maybe next time...but for now, I want color and interesting, unique patterns.

Always love white cabinets. Ours was white with hunter green laminate counters. Now that we have raised our kids and have some extra $$ we redid the white (new paint & hardware) and did granite counters- ubatuba - it's a blackish/green very dark. Now I love it even more.

Have to strongly disagree about white kitchen cabs being a trend. Over the past 30 years, we have bought, sold, or built 14 homes. The first one had white kitchen and many more in between the one I have now which is also white. I only had the stained or wood toned because we had to buy a home in a stage of completion where it was too late to change to white. With this experience, I have learned that my white kitchens were much easier to keep; they clean up much easier than the hidden grime on stained. I raised a family and had pets in these active kitchens. The sterile feeling comes when it is ALL white....but the color solutions are endless and can be easily rotated for new looks. I also have to add that when selling these homes....the white kitchens sold better. That might just be my experience but the comments were always about how cheerful the white kitchens were.

Sondramartina, if you can, get them sprayed with lacquer instead of rolled. We had our kitchen sprayed and not our bathroom vanities and have to bring the painters in for a redo. Rolling the cabinets will look good, but not as good as a professional! If you decide to roll, prep them really well!

I forgot to attach photo....so here you go...and what would I like to do next?? Maybe subway tile backsplash?? What do you think. This kitchen is 13 years old and the ONLY think I have changed in that time is wall paint....from red to this Greige.
Well all white is nice but none of these kitchens are ALL white.. everyone of them has some color in them.. Stainless appl, black or wood, marble counters, colored back splash, flooring etc. I think an ALL white kitchen would get boring very fast.

I agree no other color would make for an unappealing room and I love white spaces but you still need some color.
Actually, I think just the opposite about ALL white...it is classic and doesn't get boring. With some greenery or fruit to warm up the coldness of white, it can be as charming as any other kitchen. Interesting architectural details are important in all white kitchens, trims and moldings, as well as good lighting, pictures and maybe some small vintage pieces or antiques. It is definitely "trendy", but I have never regretted putting mine in our Boston condo. It makes me feel happy every time I look at it!

White is nice but what I know is that when I walk into a house with a white kitchen my first impression is one of slight disappointment "Aw, another white kitchen", regardless of how nicely it has been designed. They just seem overdone in our neck of the woods.

J'adore les cuisines blanches! Nous faisons des "flips" de maisons et je trouve que les cabinets blancs sont parfaits pour ce type de projet...classique, intemporels, indémodables!

I love white kitchens. You can always add splashes of color with food arrangements, furniture, etc., And I love the fact that I can always know that my kitchen is clean!!!!

We have painted all the kitchen cabinets white because of the small size of said kitchen and it makes a big difference, you actually have a wider choice of what colour to bring in and can change the colour from time to time at very little cost, I do like my small all white kitchen.

I love the look of white cabinets in all the photos yet when I go to the building materials stores, the white cabinets look cheap and plastic up close. Maybe it's just me....

I'm nearing the end of my kitchen remodel and I went shades of white. I love it.
I love predominately white kitchens, but with a splash of wood and/or color so that the kitchen doesn't look too sterile. In our kitchen remodel (modern design), we chose high gloss white frameless cabinets and Organic White Caesarstone quartz counters (white but with very subtle flecks of cream).

The floors are a warm brown hardwood (medium brown so not too dark) and backsplash is iridescent glass mosaic in dark blues that can appear green, purple, golden depending on how the light hits it.

I recently remodeled a 1950's lakefront home and went with a white kitchen. The floors are gray terrazzo and since I love the floors and did not plan to change them, the white was a natural choice for cabinets. The budget did not allow for glass front cabinets, but in the future, I may add them, as well as open shelves next to the range hood. I am very happy with the results. I used a "greige" paint for the adjoining rooms and I think the combination is quite nice.

Not in a million years. Two words - tomato sauce!

Just redid our kitchen and used stained alder wood cabinets. Cabinet builder said he was so happy to show the wood for a change, everyone was asking him to slap paint over the wood.

Went with an off white more of a "cream" color that went with the brick and granite. I tried a white for the cabinets but since the granite is a cream color that the white against it made the granite look dull and gray. The people at the paint store were so kind, I lugged this 5 inch piece of granite around and they worked until we came up with the right shade.

One of the commenters in the video mentioned "if you can maintain it and clean it daily..." Who doesn't clean their kitchen daily anyway? Another one mentioned "spatters everywhere", that's going to happen with black cabinets too. I happen to like and have a white kitchen (in the process of remodeling it) I like seeing if it has an issue that needs cleaning. I like dark kitchens too but one would not go in my current house.

    All White = Boring.

Hi sunnydrew, I remember when you were deciding on the counter tops, backsplash and paint color for your kitchen. Now I see the final results and Wow; I think it looks great! Good job!

I love and want to do my kitchen all white! I would like a beadboard finish on my doors in a white crushed ice! I absolutely hate my cabinets now and want new ones they blend with my oak floors and currently is so boring. Here's my current kitchen in photos help!!!

It totally depends on how it's done. Personally I like pop in colors but when we purchased a vacation house rental it had all white kitchen cabinets, white subway tiled backsplash and white appliances. Since the countertops are a dark blue-ish granite it all balances out and looks terrific.

Before a recent remodel, our windowless kitchen was much too dark. I opted for white cabinetry to lighten it up, although the wood floors are dark-ish. You would think the cool white LED lighting would make it too bright, but dimmers allow us control.. I love the bright white. As for upkeep, yes, dirt and spatters do show and I spend more time cleaning, but it makes me cringe to think of the dirt I must have been missing before!
White. Yes. But only with white or black countertops. And no dark kitchen floor. Every crumb and piece of dust shows immediately.

I love my DIY white cabinets. Except the cabinets are cheap, mass produced. I painted them 15 years ago and the painted surface is no longer easy to clean. That's probably to be expected after 15 years. Paint quality and maybe DIY probably made a difference. It's a great kitchen to hang colorful, original art from art fairs in.

my current house has cherry cabinets with a medium stain and dark granite that we love. The house is more on the formal side so the cherry cabinets are a great fit. We are currently redoing the kitchen in our summer lake home and those cabinets will be an off white. This house is more casual and for me, the white cabinets with blues and yellows will be perfect for a house on the water. So sometimes it depends on the look you are trying to achieve. And before everyone out there starts to yell at me, I know you can get some real formal kitchens in white as well especially with marble counter tops. I guess that is why there are so many different designs out there.

All white kitchens? Not for me, God gave us so many beautiful colors to use.

It bothers me that the white appliances do not match the white cabinets. I don't like stainless steel so I guess I will have to go with black appliances. I am planning on black countertops. Is there a white paint color that will match white appliances?
White is a color! And many shades of it. White on white is classic, clean and can be simple or ornate. And easy to accessorize and change up. Its the most versatile and popular.
I recommend getting swatches of whites from you paint store. Compare to the appliances that you are considering. Get a piece of poster board (cheap in a drugstore). Get a sample of the paint you find to be the best match. Paint it onto the poster board so that you have a large sample of the color you are considering and place the board in different spots in your kitchen. Tape it up to your cabinet. Look at it in all different lights - daylight, evening, under the lighting you will be using. This is minimal investment and a really good way to get a sense of the color in the room and if you will love living with it. White appliances are back in vogue. good luck!

I love white kitchen cabinets, but prefer countertops and backsplash to be darker ie. with brown or grey tones.

I love a white kitchen: clean, uplifting and classic - brilliant!
I LOVE white kitchen cabinets and definitely think they are classic. I personally would not go all white - cabinets, appliances, backsplash & counters but I have seen this done beautifully.

For those that have painted or had kitchen cabinets painted - what finish was the paint - flat, satin, semi-gloss or high gloss, other?

dawnbehlingideabook, your idea of white beadboard sounds really pretty, and will make your space so much lighter. My kitchen is halfway finished, mostly white. I am copying two kitchens of friends, in different eastern states. Their houses are from the 1920s and the 1930s. All white, open shelves, sunlight. Trend? Maybe. I have a friend whose favorite colors are still harvest gold and avocado green. Her husband is an architect who does a lot of white and wood, but keeps her happy in dark oranges, reds, greens. We have made glorious messes in each other's kitchens -- and cleaned up afterwards. I think white makes grime easier to spot, but clean is clean. Houzz helped me find SW Sea Salt, which is a terrific backdrop for the 4x8 subway tile. I used gray grout, again thanks to Houzz, and wish I had used it on the 2' square floor tiles. The advice to start with dirty-colored grout came too late, and rust stains from poor aim with the watering can speckle parts of the floor grout. The baking counter, not in place yet, is a 10' piece of Danby marble, with a nice roadmap of gray. The shelves and any cabinetry is being made out of birch, because I love the door that woodshop made for me. I meant to go with white... Drawer fronts will be glass.

We just painted our 1980s cabinets slightly off-white (SW Alabaster), upgraded the hardware and added trim to the bulkheads, and we couldn't be happier with how everything turned out - our kitchen is bright and cheery now. Love it!

I love, love, love white kitchens. I'm a huge fan of color but I redid our kitchen a few years ago in white and every time I walk in I feel at peace. With four kids, a dog and two cats, life can get a little out of hand. Our creamy white kitchen remains calm and serene. It is surprisingly easy to keep clean too. It's not for everyone, but it sure works for us.
We are selling our home and didn't want to spend a lot of money making the kitchen look simply bright, clean, and functional. White is the answer. Lets potential buyers see all the possibilities. Makes the space appear larger than it is and suggests a new clutter less beginning.
