We're thinking of buying 2 smaller sofas similar to this to sit across from one another perpendicular to a fireplace. My accessories are not necessarily mid-century modern. How do you mix mid-century modern with other more traditional styles? Are there any rules of thumb when mixing styles?

There are no rules for mixing styles other than selecting pieces that appeal to you and sticking to your color palette so that you have a cohesive space.

I love the idea of the two sofas facing each other in front of the fireplace. I also am in love with this sofa. The great thing about it, while it is certainly mid-century styled, its clean lines and low profile can look good with a multitude of other styles and looks. In fact, I can certainly see this sofa in a very glam setting, just as much as a minimalist room or super modern. Pair it with some lovely wood accents (side tables, accessories, etc) and you would have a very comfortable natural look. The key is to keep your vision cohesive so it creates a consistent space, no matter what "style" it is.

I'm a lover of all things mid-century, and a large part of that is the clean palate they create. They'd look amazing with nearly anything, so instead of having to conform to a style, you can select pieces you love! Beautiful sofas!

They do a lot of mixing styles now it's called "Transitional".

In my house, I have modern furniture and antiques mixed together. As bepsf said, there really are no rules. In fact, mixing them together makes the room more interesting. She's right, it's about keeping the color palette cohesive. I love those sofas you picked out. Anything would go with them.

I think you are now officially "eclectic". One of my fav. styles b/c you can mix vintage, antiques, modern. Take a look at these photos https://www.houzz.com/photos/eclectic-living-room-phbr0lbl-bl~l_87650

The great thing about mid-century modern pieces is they boast clean lines and simple geometry. Because of this, you can mix almost anything with pieces from this era! Best of luck with it!

Hi, your sofa is beautiful. I absolutely love it. It looks like a piece from the Sarah Richardson collection. My advice would be to go on the site to see what would look good. You can always get a Upholster to make one for you. ( if you want a telephone number for him pls. let me know) his work is simply amazing and his prices cannot be beat. He will even allow you to bring your own fabric in. You could go to a second hand store and find what you like then have the Upholster take off the fabric and stuffing. He can re-stain the legs or you could have acrylic legs. Wow, I can see it now!!
Do you like a mono-chromatic look? I think that if you stay with this warm neutral palette, you will be very happy. I would have a rectangular ottoman done in the same fabric, tufted with glass on the top if you want. Then I would take a few books and wrap the covers of the book in the same colour as your couch. I would then
stack them on top of each other. I have see this before and it is simply gorgeous. But this is your home, your space
I would have a dark wooden tray on your new table. You could use it for your books, wine glasses etc. The contrast would look amazing. Remember to group everything into threes...

BEST OF LUCK with your project,

    Sincerest regards, Susan

Can you please tell me where you purchased this couch? You can email me at smgh4@icloud.com or leave the response here...many thanks. I will send you a copy of the books so you can see how nice they look

Hi, I have attached 4photo's. The table with the fireplace would look sensational between the two sofas. I have attached some lighting options too. the round light would look sensational & ... I simply love it. It comes in so many sizes and it's beautiful. Another option is to put 2 floor lamps (see in picture) at each end of the sofa's. The look you will get is mixing modern with a little bit of traditional I think it looks so beautiful as you will see in the picture. All items are from Restoration Hardware in Toronto, Ont. They also have a website for you to look at. Not everyone will like this I'm sure but I just wanted to offer you a few options. Sincerest regards, Susan

Oops, here are the floor lamps.... Unfortunately, you're going to have to make the picture much much bigger because the floor lamps are there but they are very difficult to see in this photograph. My apologies
