If you can avoid it, no matching. However if it is a good deal, why not get slipcovers or you can put books and a tray over them to hide much of the flat surface....

I definitely agree to try something other than matching leather. get some colorful or muted fabric or other soft material. I have seen fabulous ottomans made from old rugs that are very unique. Keep in mind that ottomans and coffee table sometimes have to fight for space. Are you keeping your existing coffee table? use cardboard boxes placed in front of chairs to see that you have plenty of room to navigate.

Great suggestions! Have you considered a wool sisal-look area rug bound with a colored border? Would warm the floor and add another layer of texture. You can also layer smaller colorful rugs over it.
