Backsplash ending

I'm having a difficult time deciding where my backsplash should end because my counter extends past my cabinet & there's no wall there, it goes right into the family room. Should I end my backsplash with my cabinet & have a 2 inch space without backsplash over my counter, or vice versa & end the backsplash with the counter & have a 2 inch space above the backsplash ? Neither seem right but I have to choose one option. Thanks!!!

Always end the backsplash even with the cabinet. Do not go to edge of top.

Depending on the backsplash tile choice will help determine what type of edging. A pencil or liner is usually best choice.

I would end the back splash at the door trim which looks like the edge of the cabinet to me.

I'd use a rounded edge and end it at the countertop. Perhaps you could move the top cabinet over to meet that edge.

Hi! I would extend the backsplash to be inline with your counter top and then I would paint the small two inch gap between your upper cabinet and wall a white to match the cupboard. This is based on what I see in the photo :)

That's quite lovely. I think I would have it come out to the end of the counter.

If neither seems right to you don't put anything on the wall. As far as i can see there is no cooktop, dishwasher or sink around so your wall won't get very dirty.
If you still want it make it end in line with your cabinet. I think your countertop extends in the front so it won't look odd if it extends too on the side edge.

Jennifer.............Monique's comment made me re-evaluate the advise I gave you. As you can see from these photos, there is no right or wrong way to do the back splash, just personal preference. If your upper cabinet and lower cabinet line up on the outer edge, then I think I would end the back splash with that line and have the counter top extend the 1-1/2" past the edge of the cabinets.

Hi, I have seen other debates on this topic that I read even though I won't ever have the issue. I thought the photos posted by Madden, Slick would be very helpful in helping you decide which look you prefer. I barely noticed the tile stop in Case Design so although I started out thinking it should go to end of countertop, I would probably stop at the cabinet. Your marble is gorgeous!

Bringing it just to the end of cabinet will look best in this particular context, I think. Each situation is slightly different, but since your upper and lower cabinets line up with each other perfectly, it makes sense to keep the backsplash edge as a continuation of that line.
