The answer for your question is not that easy. First off all, it is a personal design choice, secondly the type of blinds you choose must fit the style of the house and last but not least, the type of window treatment must work with your demand of light and privacy.
To achieve the maximum flexibility for privacy and light control chose pleated blinds. They operate bottom-up / top down and come in about 500 different colors, prints and designs. You can also frame them in with some curtains to give it a soft touch. Please also note that pleated blinds fold down to minimal size on the top or bottom of your window.

If the lack of trim
bothers you, you may want to try a tab-topped soft treatment that has a distinctive fabric pattern to draw the eye to the treatment rather than to the window itself.

Weather you choose a blind or a shade, it should be ordered as two butt up, so that you have access to the window that slides open. A cornice or valance can be butted up to the wall and add some color or pattern to the room.
