Give me your thoughts on my great room makeover

Hi!

I recently updated my great room by making small changes. I updated accent pillows, moved houseplants, replaced candles, and added new accent chairs.

I'd love to know what you think of it.

The before and after both look great actually.

I like the green tree in the corner. The picture above the fireplace has no other reference. I would splash some blue on each side of the room--switching out a pillow or some other accessory.

Took me a while to go back and forth to see what all the differences were, the greens definitely change it up along with the various other accessories. You could use these photos as a game try and find all the changes....lol

The AFTER is definitely lighter and brighter with the new wall colour??, yellow cushions and plants. I think the coffee table and FP mantle could be relieved of the numerous candles that distract and clutter your great space..

Your space looks great :) Looks lighter and cleaner. The only changes I would do if this was my home, I would take the plant by the fire place and put it where you have a tree in the right corner ( too many plants makes it look crowded) I would declutter the center table and remove extra plants.

Good call to remove the dark throws from the loungers. I'd replace them next cool season with some creamy ones. I'm not a fan of twigs as decor, so another good call. Other than that, the only change I see is the addition of scrolls above the mirrors and a switch in candle and pillow colors and green plants. I was expecting to see more deletions, as the fireplace and coffee table are heavily overloaded with stuff and are looking cluttered rather than styled. You can always pack away half of your accessories and do a seasonal switch spring and fall. That will reduce clutter and give you a different look more often. In addition, I'd remove the scrolls - too small for the large mirrors, and really too "big box decor store" looking for your lovely space. Also, I must agree with Cynthia Allred about the art at the mantel. For better balance I prefer art above a mantel be no wider than the firebox opening below. If you use that piece in the room, you do need to sprinkle some blue around. The small "soldiers" lined up there appear to be photos. Those would be better layered in groups of threes on table tops than as mantel decor. Art and the candles will be sufficient.

Looks staged not lived in!! Too much clutter

Sorry can't see after. But you have a lot going on in this room. I would remove sheers, all items on walls and start over with just a few. The mirrors on that back wall looks cluttered. Have you tried placing your furn so it works better in room. Ceiling fan looks dated. Might try a chandelier.

Way to much stuff on floor in front if FP. Remove not needed. Sometimes like now, less is more.

Since you asked... the update to me is a mixed bag. The right side of the room with the fresh yellow throw cushions is a success (although I would remove almost everything from the coffee table). The left side of the room and the fireplace wall remain visually cluttered and a bit dated. There are too many "chachki" in the space.

too cluttered, get the stuff off the coffee table, remove the stuff in front of the fireplace, halve the stuff on the mantelpiece, no squiggly things over the mirrors, no twigs

The warm tones of gold and the cool tones of gray are fighting...plus the sizes of the pieces are fighting....the balance is off...and needs adjusted

There's just way Too much stuff in both before and after. Sorry, but it looks busy and cramped. And it's not even good quality stuff. Candles, plants, pillows, iron scrolly thingies. so sorry, but it looks like someone spends too much time at Home Goods.

Rebecca Mitchell, Oy veh! It's tchotchke! Not "chachki" :))))

That room has good bones! Personally I prefer a white ceiling fan so that my eye doesn't get drawn up to the ceiling. Secondly the amount of stuff around the fireplace and on the coffee table would be too much for me. I seem to see lots of vertical lines of things. Put some in the garage for a month and if you can't live without them, you have your answer and put them back. Lastly the sheers. Ever thought of ditching those? If they are for privacy or shielding an eye sore, I get it. You need to love it and it looks thoughtfully done. Enjoy it.

I like your couches and room arrangement. Will you consider replacing your coffee table to a very simple almost contemporary shape or finish. Or paint the wood black or dark charcoal.
