Picture please? And what color is the roof?

With taupe and tans, I'd say anything warm, from teak to chocolate color?

I have attached two pictures. One is a closer pic of the veneer stone we are using on the lower portion of the house. I tried the Therma tru stain Cherry but it is too red and so is the mahogany. Would like it to look like stain not painted.

Many folks like having a front door that makes a statement. With stains you are somewhat restricted. The trim at the window may color at a different rate the the rest of the door. You may like a nice dark ebony door if you want people to be able to see it from the street.

I agree with above, if you don't like the redness, pick a really dark brown.

Personally I'd pick paint. Something bright. Deep wine red or fresh robin's egg blue, for example.

I actally agree with the red tones to keep it warm and to blend with the gray siding. The stone you have picked out also has red in it see the bottom corner left of your stone grouoing? There's your color.

Thank you for your ideas. The house is new construction so no front stoop or landscaping has been done. Right now stoop is just a piece of plywood over a pallet. :)
I will get some deeper red tones to try or taupes. I have see other houses on your site with the timberbark Hardie siding and stone with wood stained doors but couldn't see where they told what color the door was.

Then go really dark. Almost Espresso. It will be dramatic and wonderful and suggest very old wood
